Good Sunday Mornin'

Another Good Sunday Mornin' has rolled around. I have a "sick" calf in the corral. I put sick in quotes because I don't know how to help her. She was a good doing heifer, but has gone off her feed. No fever, discharge or any common symptoms. She just won't eat. I have provided plenty of clean water, good alfalfa, a little fresh corn, and even tried some sorghum hay, but no interest on her part. I have given her a shot of Vit. B the last couple of days as well as some Probios to get her rumen functioning. I don't know what else to do for her. It's a discouraging situation on my part..

Our Lord has willingly taken on Himself the responsibility of being our caretaker. He has given Himself for our salvation. He has given us peace that passes all understanding. He tells us that faith is a gift. He has even given us the gift of His righteousness. There is very little we are responsible to provide for ourselves. He has provided us with plenty of good feed, but it is our responsibility to eat. We must read the Word for ourselves. How frustrating it must be for our Lord when we just won't feed ourselves because of a lack of spiritual appetite. In our society, we are all busy--very busy. Are we even willing to starve ourselves to the point of weakness or sickness? We really ought to take time on a daily basis to feed ourselves from His Word; we'll do better if we eat. Well you folks have yourselves a good Sunday mornin' and a good rest of the week. I'm going to go take my Vit. B and Probios and head to the sick pen.

Another good one, as usual. You've sure got a knack for putting everything we encounter on a daily basis into the proper perspective. I really look forward to reading you every Sunday.

Thanks for taking the time to GIVE to all of us, Shortgrass.

Ditto to what the others have said, Shortgrass. I have a sick cow I have been waiting on for a couple weeks or better. I really should have consulted the vet but she is slowly getting better. When I first found her she was quite dehydrated and having a lot of difficulty breathing with short shallow breaths. I never gave her a shot of anything but when I started feeding and watering her she got over that part quick. I suspect she has some kind of infection or mastitis in her udder. 2 quarters of her udder seem too full and swollen for a cow that had her calf weaned a month ago.

Since I found her laying off by herself in the pasture I've been hauling water and cracked corn/DDG to her. Appetite hasn't been her problem. She eats the corn/DDG quite well. I let her drink as much water as she wants and left her a rubber tub full.

Today she was up and about with the rest of the herd at the water tank, so I couldn't give her any special feed without the rest of the herd raising a ruckus. I petted her and told her I'd keep bringing the extra feed, but she has to find a place where she can eat it without outside interference! :D

I appreciate someone who can find a sermon in anything. Thing is, farmin' and ranchin' provide plenty of opportunities for daily sermons...if we stop to think a bit.
Thanks!
