The grandsons were out the other day. We did some hunting, work and just foolin around. They took home a whole raft of treasures with them. The busted off end of a hotshot, a couple of feathers, some spent casings, some spent shotgun shells. I had taken an old 1 x 4 and a piece of ½ pipe and made them "rifles" which they pack with them everywhere. I have given them old hats which have little use left in them –trust me. Those boys treasure those old dirty, holey hats like a new 10x Stetson. They have carted off old antelope and rabbit skulls that are priceless in their eyes. We smile as we look at the "treasures" of a young boy. I wonder what the Lord's reaction is to your treasures and my "valuables". Does He smile? Is He sad? I do know He has told us to "lay up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroy". I would encourage you to just give a little thought to the things you truly treasure. Share them with us, if you are so inclined. Well have yourselves a good Sunday morning and a good rest of the week.

Thank you for those inspiring thoughts, Shortgrass. It is interesting that a young kid's "treasures" are often things of little material value. My parents talk about a Christmas when my cousin and I were two or three years old. We received toys and teddy bears, but of most interest to both of us was the cardboard boxes that our goodies came in. We crawled into the boxes and they served as "boats" and we had a good time.

Shortgrass, those boys are blessed to you to have you for their grandpa, as you look out for them, protect them, and encourage them. We all are so fortunate to have a Heavenly Father who does the same for us. Good communication is the secret for families to get along, and good communication is also necessary in our relationship with our Heavenly Father. We need to read and hear His Word, and have an active prayer life as we respond back to Him.

your grandsons sound EXACTLY like my two boys! the younger boy will even switch hats if he see the one I am wearing, dad has a KSU hat, he runs and gets one. dad has a Pioneer hat, off he goes to get his. he really thought he was top dog when he got his own pliers and pouch for his belt! when working with wire, he has his offered to me, before I can pull mine to use !

the antelope skull got me to thinking....we do not have any around here, and if one of you found a skull out in the pasture, with the horns, would you be interested in boxing it up and sending it to me?

I would like to "plant it" near the creek and see what happens on our next shed hunting trip...... I am not sure they would have a clue as to what it would be.... could make for an interesting afternoon!

if you find one, PM me and I will give you my address.

Very nice message shortgrass thank-you :) I believe God smiles at the treasures in my life, greg and I are blessed with one grandchild and 18 great nieces and nephews age 12 and under, these young people give us joy, laughter, kindness, uncondiontional love, every emotion God gave us....these children and thier parents are the true treasures in our life.

Very good as usual, thank you! I treasure what God has entrusted to me...the animals, ranch and way of life that we have. Also my great husband, friends and family :)

The things I expected are the things that showed up:
Our lifestyle
our families
I like some of the things Soapweed brought out--prayer, the Word, our careing Father.

I'll finish the rest of the verse now; it is "for where your treasure is there will your heart be also". We need to have a passion for things that don't rot or get rusty. As we go from this life to the next, the only thing we can take with us are people related. As soapweed said, Our love for our Father in heaven can go with us. Most of us country folk don't need people for the sake of people, but our friends are very important. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe I'll just count you folks in that group!

Thanks for another enlightening read Shortgrass, I wish that I could say the things that you do in so few words with so much impact. You knew that this bunch would come up with the life style that we lead along with our family and friends. With that being said, I have the priviledge of walking out the door in the morning, right into God's back yard, knowing that it is my responsibility to care for His animals, care for His yard, also knowing that I will have my wife and daughter right behind me if I look back. I also know that if I am in trouble, friends are close at hand, and I can count on them to help me. I am most fortunate to have raised a son that is unselfishly giving of himself to defend this country, his family and our way of life. I did raise him by myself for quite a period of time, but someone else helped me out, maybe that is where he learned of true sacrifice, and I learned the true meaning of unconditional love.
