One of the hidden blessings of the ranching industry is that it requires us to practice a lot of foresight. As I select a herdsire, I am thinking of genetics that will influence my herd well into the next decade and beyond. We exercise conservation measures that our children will reap benefits from. I am concerned about a cow breeding back again before she has calved. Foresight is a trait that is linked to our countries freedom. Proverbs 29:18 says that where there is no vision, people cast off restraint. We need vision and foresight or the casting off of restraint will cause the loss of our freedom! Thomas Jefferson stated that only a moral people can be a free people. Freedom is the right of self government. Self government is self discipline. Morality is nothing but self discipline. If a person cannot discipline themselves, then others are required to discipline them. Thus a loss of freedom is the result. People who are clamoring the loudest about their 'rights' at the expense of others are the very ones who are the most responsible for the loss of freedoms we are experiencing.. Vision is linked to faith in God. Our founding fathers had a lot of both did they not? Come to think of it, maybe some of us old people need to think of the consequences of our action or our lack of action. We need to pray for wisdom and foresight for ourselves and our leaders. God bless those young men and women with the vision and foresight to fight for our freedom. Our armed forces are demonstrating the traits that will serve them and our nation well. Thank you to our troops. Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin', and a real fine Independence Day week.

I guess I'll post this story here, as it holds relevance to our spiritual lives, though not so much to the national holiday. A lady in our community, a schoolmate, and life-long friend, that works at the CoOp was coming out of town from a doctors appointment when a trailer broke loose from oncoming traffic hitting her in the driver's door killing her instantly. We had seen her last week, passing the time of day in a normal fashion. Neither of us had an clue that her time on earth was nearing an end. We just never know. We need to have our house in order each day as we go about the business of everyday living. Her daughter, and son-in-law have just started attending our community church for the last 4 or 5 Sundays. Why, Lord? Sometimes I don't understand; I just have to trust Him.

Sorry about your friend shortgrass. Friends of ours lost their son Friday. He was a missionary overseas and died in a plane crash. You never know when , but you know death is coming someday.
