Christmas is looming on the not too distant horizon, and its time for me to get started on some gifts for the grandkids. I really like to make something for them. For real special people, I like the home made things. I started a few years ago by making some toy rifles out of an old bed slat and a piece of pipe. The boys thought that they were special, and still pack them around although they are showing some wear and have experienced some repairs. I figure this year the main project will be a model shop building. It will be made to scale with doors and paint to match dad's real shop. I will make the roof on a piano hinge so that half will fold back and they can reach inside to pull their toy tractors inside to unload their wagons. It just seems to me that for the ones you love so much that you really ought to put a little of yourself into the gift. My, according to that train of thought just think how much God must love us. Look at how much of Himself He has poured into us. I doubt that we can comprehend what He has sacrificed on our behalf until some day when we see Him in his glory. For God to have been made in the likeness of man, and then to give his life-WOW. That is where the whole idea of gift giving got started isn't it? Enjoy the season—let the stress have a rest, and just do something nice for someone (I hope you just heard that, Shortgrass!!) Well have yourselves a good Sunday mornin', and a good rest of the week too.

Thanks again for your timely message, Shortgrass!

That model shop you built in the image and likeness of dads for your grandkids reminds me that God gave us this world to work and play in.

God created us in His own image and likeness. And like the model shop you built, He created this world we live in as a model of heaven for us. We can't even imagine what the real thing is like!

Adam and Eve had everything they could ask for in Eden. Then the serpent came along to trick them and they fell for his slick line. Their sin broke the great deal they (and us) had with God. We are reminded this season that Jesus came to give us the ultimate gift, and made things right again.

You have a good Sunday and rest of the week. And enjoy the time with those grandkids this Christmas too!

Thanks, Shortgrass, and John SD. You both put things into fine perspective.

God graced us with about four inches of fresh snow the last couple days, with just enough wind to turn the windmills. He put a clean white tablecloth upon the land, and it looks rather Christmassy outside.

Well, guess I'm off to do something nice for some cows--like feed them.

Have a great week, everyone. :-)

Shortgrass---your posting sure rang true this week.....with money reallllly tight, I have been struggling to figure out what to do for the kids.....so easy to get wrapped up in the whole "gotta get them this...gotta get them that" trap....playstations, wii, xbox 360's, cell phones, ipods, etc!! I think something FROM THE HEART (like what God gave us) is much better and will be remember for many more years!! thanks for the beautiful wake-up call!! You somehow seem to know just WHAT to say!

Thanks, Shortgrass. I enjoy your Sunday Morning posts every week and quite often go back and reread during the week.

Soap, I bet those cows can hear that Cummins comin' quite a ways off! Maybe the fresh snow deadens the distance the sound carries though.

I'm not feeding cows but my calves that I weaned a week ago Friday come back to the corral for water and to eat cracked corn/DDG.

I am very impressed with the way this bunch has settled down and taken to bunk feeding. On day 3 I convinced the mamas to leave across the corral fence and go to fresh winter pasture half mile away over the hill out of sight (and mostly out of sound range with the fresh snow)

I'm even more impressed that it seemed to actually work on the first try!  :D
