I've rode several horses in the last 60 years, and some pretty good ones too. As the time ticks by, I have really come to appreciate what I refer to as an honest horse. You can catch them and use them anywhere or any time, and they will give you an honest effort. One that you don't have to retrain after a little time off is my pick. I think that the Lord appreciates that quality in his servants. He expects us to be loyal to Him anywhere or any time. Now the world expects something different of us! They expect us to be content to leave our "religion" at church and don't be so "churchy" during the week. Then they will tell you that the reason that they don't go to church is because of the "hypocrites" that say one thing on Sunday, and then don't live it during the week……..Now I wonder who is the hypocrite? God expects to be our life and not someone we visit on Sunday mornin'. If we don't live it, we are just all talk and not able to do the walk - just another blowhard. Now who wants that label? I think it is better to please the Lord than to try to please the world. Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin' and a good rest of the week too.
 
Shortgrass, I've ridden darn few horses in my lifetime. Probably because I've seen so many of the "hypocrite" horses other folks have. By the time they get the horse caught, saddled, loaded up, hauled to the pasture, unloaded, and settled down enough to ride I could have got the cow moving job done with my 4 wheel horse and be back in the house having coffee! :wink: :lol:

Before the horse people here get on my case, I'd be the first to acknowledge that a good horse ridden by a good cowhand is priceless when the work needs to get done. And a worthless horse ridden by some wannabee cowboy is as bad as having some trigger happy idiot with a hot shot around. That's a subject I can rant on some other day! :roll: :D :lol:

Dad had no use for horses whatsoever. As a kid he had been bucked off the old pony named "Big Enough" enough times on the way to school. The only horse around here when I was growing up was Grandma's old mare "Tot" who spent her last years at our place. I put the saddle on Tot every once in a while to go check water or something. So it has been all of 30 years since I've been on a horse.

Every horse should be like Tot was. She was one of those faithful cow horses always ready to do whatever her master needed done. One time Grandma was riding and didn't get the cinch tight enough and the saddle turned and dumped Grandma off. Tot calmly waited for Grandma to get things straightened out, climb back on and get back to work.

As always, thanks for your message Shortgrass. If we don't practice what we preach the other 6 days a week, it really doesn't matter what we do on Sunday. Will God see us as faithful servants doing His will, or are we only wannabee cowboys on a worthless horse? We make that choice for Him every day.

Very good analogy and message. Thank you, Shortgrass, for your Sunday morning words of wisdom. God always provides you with the proper words for us to ponder for the rest of the week.

Now we are off to move cattle home from the neighbor's place, and see if our own horses have "stayed honest" after a brief holiday. :-)
 
I don't post often but I do enjoy coming to the forum and reading. I especially like to visit on Sundays for Shortgrass' message. Thank you for your posts.
I attended a funeral yesterday, she was 94. She and her husband were dear friends of my parents. They were hard working farmers and Gladys is the last one of their close circle of friends in the neighborhood where I was born to pass on. The verse in her funeral brochure touched me and I would like to share it:

God hath not promised
skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways
All our lives through;
God hath not promised
sun without rain,
joy without sorrow,
peace without pain.

But God hath promised
strength for the day,
rest for the labor,
light for the way,
grace for the trials,
help from above,
unfailing sympathy
Undying love...
 
Thanks to all you who reply. 1586, I like that verse too, it is right on target. Soapweed, your horses don't get vacations, just a day off once in awhile! In fact one of those good hosses I rode was at your place last summer. Goose will remain honest, doncha bet? John, I have some neighbors that do not want a horse on the place. They have run cattle a long time too. You are right about the "hypocrite" horses too. I guess we all have to determine if we are His hand or just a wannabe??? Hi Shorthorn! hows things in WI?
 
Shortgrass, I think our experiences help form our pereceptions early on in life. Dad and one of his brothers had a awful time with this ornery little pony who would be ready to go each morning, then halfway to school the hypocrit would come out and the pony would dump them. Dad always said it would have just been a lot easier to walk to school in the first place than to mess with that pony. :wink:

Dad had two other brothers who were great horsemen and used them all the time. One of his brothers passed away suddenly while out riding his mule during the fall round up. My uncle would have picked that way to go.

In the same way we shouldn't let the "Christian on Sunday morning only hypocrites" discourage us from seeking out and walking with the Lord in His house of worship. I hope everyone has a spiritual home and can attend the church of their choice today. I went last night since we are on 7PM Sat schedule for the next 3 months. This time of year that is almost past my bedtime! :wink: :lol:
