Did you ever have one of those good ideas that just didn't work? I have spent hours building some "great invention" that didn't work at all. However, from that experience you may have learned something that paid dividends down the road in another situation. Barnabas and Paul reached a situation that caused a great dissention between the two good friends. This event is recorded in Acts 15:36-41. After the argument each of the men took partners and went on separate mission trips. Some people think that God caused this argument so that He could have two teams instead of one. I think God could have called another team without dissention between brothers. I don't think this argument was of God, but rather it is a picture of two Godly men whose feet are made of clay. They were wrong. The fact that they went on separate and successful missions is an example of how God causes all things to work together for the good of His kingdom and His servants. The situation may not be good, but God can bring something good from it. What characteristic of a good encourager do we write down this week? Barnabas might have failed in one area, but he got up and kept right on serving the Lord; the Lord used him in spite of himself rather than because of his "qualifications". Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin' and a good rest of the week too.

Along the lines of two separate mission trips brings to mind something I heard this past week on "Back to the Bible," which airs on KVSH radio from Valentine, Nebraska (940 AM on the radio dial). It was pointed out that when a certain Christian married couple had occasion to fly, they always requested seats that weren't together. This wasn't because they didn't want to sit with each other; it was because they felt that flying provided an opportunity where they could each witness and minister to other people.

Yep Shortgrass, that reminds me that God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

When we fail, we need to follow the example of Barnabas. "Cowboy up" and keep right on serving the Lord.

On public TV a while back I watched a piece on the LDS church. Their young men take 2 yrs and go out in pairs on missionary journeys which is a requirement of their church. All that 24/7 togetherness sometimes put friendships to the test, probably not unlike what happened with Paul and Barnabbas.

Our human failings are always with us, but God uses each of us to accomplish His will anyway.

My prayers continue for Jan. As always thank you for the message and encouragement.

PS: Another encouraging sign I saw yesterday was geese flying north! :wink:

I saw those same geese blowing back south. but they were pointing north, here this AM! Winds are 51 mph according to my weather station. Some of you guys up north need to shut the gate! I just looked out again, and it is blowing bales off my stack.............Welcome to March!
 
God also used those trips to teach both of them a lesson. They came back around and put the dissent behind them and became close again.

shorthorn could you atleast slow the wind down a bit before you send down to us? And keep the snow that is suppose to blow in.

Thank you for bring this message and spuring us to read more on these two men. There is alot to be learned from them.
