Many of you have probably read by now, where I posted in another thread about having the misfortune this past Wednesday of losing part of a finger when it was pinched in a moving pumpjack. As you might well imagine, this is not a fun event to experience. Accidents happen. Bad health issues can come upon anyone. Troubles abound in this old world, and God has never indicated that this would not be the case. He does, however, promise that if we:

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and He will make your paths straight.

"Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones."
Proverbs 3:5-8

The Good Lord sure helped me with the trials and tribulations that came with my accident. I had a cell phone in my pocket which allowed me to summon help right away, and Peach arrived within five minutes. There was basically no pain associated with the badly bleeding finger. Even after arriving at the hospital over sixty miles away, there was very little pain. The doctor asked me, on the scale of 1 being very little pain and 10 being excruciating pain, to rate my discomfort. I had to say with complete honesty that my pain level was "less than 1." God certainly gave me comfort and peace in my time of need.

I have owned this pumpjack for nearly twenty years. There have been times when I have taken it to remote pastures, far from any help. Many times I have set it up when I didn't have either a cell phone or cell service. All in all, I consider the circumstances of the accident remarkable considering the other situations when it could have happened. It was very reassuring to know that God was carrying the brunt of the burden during the whole ordeal, and that He will continue to do so in the adjusting days to come. :-)

James 1:2-4 "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perserverance. Perserverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

Have a Good Sunday Mornin' and a great rest of the week. Shortgrass, your return to duty will be very welcome to all of us next week. :-)

OUCH! Sorry to hear of your accident Soapweed. I hope you heal fast without further complications. And I hope sharing your experience with us make us all more careful and pay more attention to what we are doing. Yes, The Man Upstairs was looking out for you.

I read recently on another site of an incident when a man got his hand caught in the non-moving auger of a grain cart trying to get the auger extension in place. His cell phone was in the cab of his running tractor and was no use to him. Even though he was in his yard he couldn't shout over the noise of two running tractors and had to wait for help to get himself free.

Folks, carry those cell phones on your person when you're doing potentially dangerous stuff. I realize that a person shouldn't depend on the cell phone since there are still many places with no service. I am the worst offender leaving the phone out of reach in the cab of the pickup or tractor. Don't want to lose or smash that phone of course! :roll: :oops:

Here on my own if something happened it would probably be days before anyone thought to look for me. And that likely would be only because I wasn't forwarding them emails! :lol: :wink: Be careful out there!

You are right, He was looking out for me. Another circumstance I forgot to mention in the earlier post was that it could just as easily have "bitten off" three fingers instead of only one. My welder son has the pumpjack in at his shop right now to add a shield so this won't happen again. He confirms how fortunate I was to only lose one finger out of the experience.

Our son-in-law had the same experience with losing part of a finger on Friday. I'll try and let him read your testimony for some encouragement. How did you type this message? Did Peach type while you dictated? That's how you and Shortgrass give us these messages...letting God do the dictating and ya'll just relaying it. Thanks and fast healing!

Sorry to hear of your son-in-law's experience. My prayers are with him because I know just what he is going through.

I am typing by myself, but sure have to look down a lot and make a multitude of corrections. The "home keys" seemed to have changed locations. :wink:

That's what happens when you show off and use more then one finger to type. :wink: :lol:

Thank you Lord, for watching out for us all. Thanks for Blessing my life with these good people who share their lives across the miles and country boundarys. Thanks for giving us the courage and fortitude to carry on. Watch over these good folks and bless em'. And thanks to you Soapweed and Shortgrass for a great Sunday Mornin'. Please bless Soap to keep care of the rest of his fingers and toes! And help his sore finger heal. Thanks and Love!

:cry: Boy, Soapweed, I am saddened to hear that. What finger, and how much? I poked the long finger on my right had in a post driver. I sure miss it, and that was 35 or more years ago. I do thank God with everyone else that it was not more serious. Thanks for being here for all us, and we just arrived home from Atlanta. Nice trip to make one appreciate the rural life. Your comments were a welcome view from another's perspective.

Thanks for the message Soapweed. Those are some of my favorite verses. No matter what the issue - - sore fingers or depressed calf prices--- the LORD will provide for our needs.

Oh, I'm just reading for the first time about your loss, Soapweed, so sorry to hear and what an adjustment! I'm sure we all take our fingers foregranted until we can't use one. How will this effect your piano playing?

My brother-in-law lost his left ring finger wearing his wedding ring while sailing a cat. When it tipped over something hooked that ring and off popped the finger into the lake. So along with your warning: don't wear rings around some equipment. He still has a minor problem which is, if he is ticking off ideas at meetings with that hand, he comes up one short!

But, losing any part of the body is no laughing matter.
We hope you heal up without a problem.
