Doc Halladay is on his way outta town to land with the Phillies. He is probably the best all around pitcher to ever wear a Jays uniform and now he's gone.

Toronto came out short on this trade deal because, rather than netting at least one big league player, they only got back prospects for the best pitcher in Major League Baseball today.

And like one writer said "prospects have a way of very quickly turning into suspects in Toronto". (See Leafs, Raptors)

But it was good - no, great - to watch one of Baseball's premier figures come up through the team that I rooted for. Doc is a gritty, bring-it-all-every-time kind of player who inspired his team mates and, simply by virtue of who he was, intimidated his opponents. Most batters walked away from the plate shaking their heads wondering what just happened.

He would get up there and throw the ball and if he made a bad pitch (as they all do occasionally) he would put it behind him and just focus on what he had to do to get the next guy out. Lots to learn from that approach, for all of us.

He had a sinker ball that sunk so hard that it made the hitters sure that they had just tried to hit a bowling ball!!

Well I'm sure that the Phillies fans will get their money's worth and Doc oughtta pack the stands every time he's on the mound.

So long, Doc. Here's to a long and illustrious career for one of baseball's best ever!! Thanks for all the good memories you gave us of watching the Toronto Blue Jays.
