I have deliberated even to put this on ranchers, but I am going to with some reluctance... First of all I want to make it very clear that I am very aware of more important problems other people have.. And I realize that.. But even in the darkest times there is light at the end of the tunnel. We just have to have faith....
I want to thank Faster Horses for the support she has shown me the last month coping with limits injury... Girl you are salt of the earth and the best friend anyone could ever ask for and I thank you....

On the 29th of April I took three beefs to Arthur to the locker and on that morning I turned Limit out of his stall into his run and left. When I got home that nite about nine p.m. I went to put him in and found him with a huge cut on his cheek.. Basically all the skin on his cheek was tore away and he had a huge gash in the muscle part of his cheek. I called the vet and he was at out place by ten and he sewed limit up... It took untill midnight for him to put all the stitches in and replace the flap of skin. So here is story in pictures.. Some are quite graphic so if you are weak stomached don't scroll down any farther....

This is what he stuck his head under reaching for grass.. It has been fixed now where he can not reach under anymore.

I'm glad you shared with me, Katrina. You did everything you
could for him, and I respect you so much for doing that.
It's healing so nice I think you'll be back in the arena with him
before you know it! Horses seem to get into things, but they
heal up well with proper care. Limit got it and then some!!
I'm happy for you both!!
 
Crap happens and even more so to the good ones.

You took responsibility and did what it took to heal him up. He's looking good. :D

We seem to have had our share of wire cut horses. We used to end up with a bunch of horses from around the country in our pasture for the winter. It was quite a rodeo getting them in and sorted off to their owners. None of them could ever figure out how they got in our place. :roll:
We had a yearling filly one time that cut her neck open from the point of her chest to her shoulder. She had to be halter broke before she could be treated and it was to late for stitches so Dad went to doctoring her. She became quite the pet hanging around the house all summer. went on to be a great little mare. :D
 
Limit's a beauty! Good luck with the doctoring and healing process. They seem to find a way to get into trouble, no matter how "horse proof" you try to make things.

It's called woundaid... All natural and it says it helps heal faster.. I think it worked really well. Kinda spendy.. Thirty bucks a bottle... I did some research on the net and was really impressed with the before and after pictures... I was desperate for a miracle... I'm taking him in today for a check up... I have to say that Butler Clinic did a wonderful job and I couldn't of had a better vet/vets..
 
I'm so sorry to hear that happened, but it looks like he's on the mend. I'm glad you decided to share since that exact same thing could happen to my horses... I'm gonna think twice before putting them into the trap with cattle panels. Sorry that happened, but thanks for the warning.
 
Looks like you and your vet have done a good job Katrina. Those things happen.

We have a gelding that hung up on a goose-neck hitch and opened himself up from the point of the shoulder to the top of his mane. You could see a vertebra at one place. It took me two hours and 30 feet of catgut to put him back together. Kept up with flushing and a wound healing concoction for a month and he is OK. This happened in 2005, the only thing noticable now is a small scar and he is a little short strided.
 
I have a great respect for a lady that would take care of her horse like you did,looks like he is past to rough spots and about ready to go,did you ever figget out how it happened ?

Yes here too.. Not only was he sewed on the out side, but all that flap of skin was stitch underneath.. It took two spools of thread how ever much is on that.

I think he stuck his head under the fence reaching for green grass.. I put a board on the bottom to cover those darn hooks..
 
I am sure under your care he will be great.
Now if you get tired of caring for him you can always ship him here... I seem to be running a home for horses with owners too busy. He will get SPOILED rotten. but I think you might have gotten him started ;)

He looks like a different horse already. Glad you got him looked after and all stitched up. A horse is a horse to some people but to those that have been around them forever know that a horse is also a great friend to have and kinda like a part of the family . :)

I am sure under your love and care he will make a speedy recovery, he is super shiny too ... :D
