I was wondering if any body is fighting this problem right now??? Any suggestions on what to do with a down cow? Heifer had it last year and got a cow down with it right now. Doc said to usue CMPK... it worked on the heifer, but not looking good for the cow???

You're apparently talking grass tetany ? I haven't had it for years- but usually start giving a higher mag % vitamin before calving now... I have used the CMPK with mixed results- some were up in minutes and came right out of it- and others I lost...
I think some of the difference in performance of the drug was on how early I detected it.... I also think genetics play a role in it...The cows that seemed to get it first and worst were the bigger harder keepers and higher milk producers...
I also think some of the reason I'm not seeing it anymore is that I went to more moderate "range cow" type genetics and away from the semen pimp's "high performance" bull of the month club type that was raised in an Iowa farm lot with a corn crib in front of his dam and him all his life....
