I've taken these over the past couple of weeks. It sure is wonderful to have green grass and fat mommas and babies. Last year our cows were in good shape, but at this time, the grass was past being brown, and we were hauling water. All of the ground/grass in these photos was burnt last year.

Lazy ace says this is the best crop of Western wheat and Needle and Thread he's ever seen!

Tap, is this same plant as your "Pea" plant?

The grass is more than belly deep on a Corgi dog

Those sure look good and the grass is tremendous. The red cattle with green grass sure make some nice pictures.

Yup,fat cattle & green grass,life is good :D
good luck
PS tell Lazy Ace to have a cool one :D

Those are beautiful photos of the red cattle and bright green grass. Now if you could momentarily move those cattle into the pasture where the needle grass shows off to be more "white," it would be a great patriotic Fourth of July picture of red cattle, white grass, and blue eartags. Thanks for posting.

Thank you all very much!

Soapweed...if I have some time before the 4th, I'll see what I can do with Photoshop...I'm not that great with it, so we'll see!

Haymaker...we've been making a lot of hay, but I bet lazy ace takes you up on a cold one!

Have a grand ol' day!

Please send some of that wet stuff that made the green grass my way. We've had around 2 tenths of rain the month of June. It seems to be just a 4mile radius that hasn't received rain around us. I've come to the conclusion the better half hasn't been living right because I know I've been good!!!! LOL

Feeder...

We tried to send last night's rain your way. When I was getting ready this morning, it looked like it went east/northeast. You probably didn't want it anyway, as there was lots of good sized hail in the storm. According to KELO your chance should be today and tomorrow! We'll be hoping and praying....

Tell Mr. Feeder to get with the program  Honestly, I think after all of our fires last year, the Good Lord and Mother Nature took pity on us. I hope you don't have to have that bad of a year to receive rain!

Yes it is TTB. Yours looks much more thrifty looking than our peavine. And your country just looks absolutely fabulous! And the cattle do too. I can see that your area has a lot different grass cover than ours. It looks like you have mostly western wheat as opposed to our short grass cover. The gumbo south of us has mostly western wheat, but I have never seen it look nearly as good as your pictures show your area to be. That is something. :)

I took a picture of our peas today. I was wondering if it would make any pea pods with as dry as it has been lately. Some pea plants here are shriveled up to nothing, but here is a plant I found that shows the peas made it.

Here are a group of peas that are really drying up.

And here is the contrast of our range compared to yours. Ours looks tall, but the needle grass, cheat grass, and june grass, are all hovering over the good native plants. We still have great grazing, but the grasses cattle prefer are hiding under the rest. From the radar, it looks like you may be getting a good rain AGAIN this morning. We are just getting very light rain, wind and lightning. I would call the fire danger very high in this area now.

Thanks Tap.

I don't think our pea has pods, and don't know if it will.

Remember, this is an exceptional year for us moisture wise...normally the grass would be good, but not this tall or lush.

Funny thing, I bet our calves don't wean off as heavy as the past two years, because of more moisture, thus "washier" grass that isn't nearly as hard.

And, we are concerned about the fire season once all this nice grass dries down. I am glad we don't have much cheat...that stuff is like gasoline when it dries. There are some pretty heavy stands of cheat grass east of us on our major rez road...I am concerned about it catching fire. The only blessing is the tribe's prairie dog preservation project has built a great fire guard around it.   I hope you get some more moisture, and less lightning.

Have a safe and fun 4th of July, and take some time to enjoy the day with your family...

Cheers---
