A guy shows up at the house the other night with 3 eggs from one of these birds. He'd heard I have an incubator and so figured I'd be happy to have the eggs. I wasn't, but what could I do at that point? They're now in the oven.
Don't know how long the incubation is but I suspect it's more like a duck's (28 days) than a chicken's (21 days). The birds remind me of pheasants though they spend a lot of time in trees as well as on the ground. They travel in loose packs and when one starts hollering, they all start hollering. Early in the morning you can hear them for miles....sometimes hundreds of them calling. BTW, the name is a rough representation of the sound they make....repeated over and over again.
I'm told they make great pets when reared in captivity....feeding with the chickens and just hanging out. Time will tell.
