had a pretty full week. did some custom baling to help out a neighbor, and we put up 400 acres of our own. 1,100 bales went up this week. we baled from 11 to 2, then hauled hay to the shed till near dark. the boys took a break, and then I went and baled at night...that way we had some more to haul when it got too dry to bale. probably averaged from 4 to 6 hours of sleep each night...not easy for a fat guy!

my boys are Sophomore and a 7th grader...i am real proud of the way they helped out. Jim was off cutting wheat, so i really needed them.

in this one, I was on the phone selling some hay, and the boys thought it would be funny to ALL be on the phone...

I always dread haying seasone but when it finally does happen I really enjoy it. When your out all night long baling and when the sun comes up and you can see all those bales out in the field its always a neat thing to see.

Whats hay brining in your area jigs? I sold all of our first cutting for $100/per ton which I think might have been to cheap but I needed to pay some bills and wanted to get it all moved.

have the brome hay sold for $100 /ton alfalfa is $70 for junk grinder and up to $140 or more for dairy hay. been moving middle of the road hay for $125 ...

the older boy is quite the comedian, but it is that dry humor....really a fun kid. they got mohawks to start the summer, I really did not care, then we went to town, and i was a tad bit embarrassed... but it grows out, so what is the harm??? yes, the middle of my head is wearing thin, may be the last time I get a flat top for the summer!

They both look like fun kids to me. Enjoy them while you can
They grow up so doggone fast.
Young folks were few and far between here.
I look back at things that seemed a crisis at the time,
and is now funny. :? I think I needed to breath more.
The couple that leased our grass, they have kids and we are really enjoying them.

So what do you get for swathing and baling
we dont custom swath, but will run the baler for $14 a bale plus $1.25 a pound for the liquid innoculant. baled some wet gamma grass for a neighbor, cost him $12 a bale for the juice !! he said keep baling, so i kept on a going

Nice set up Jigs, it is awesome when the kids get funny and useful. How is the feed bill for the older one? We have had some young people that are a tad expensive to feed if they are working to potential.

I may be biased, but those boys are the best there is. I ran Cole pretty hard this week, and every morning I went down and told him it was time to get going, he was groggy, but right up and eating breakfast... I was very proud. the younger one will be my farmer, he wants to do it, but size is an issue.....

they can sure run up a grocery bill!

With young men like that helping you it is not like it is work.

Say what do you figure it would cost per ton to lay some feed down, bale it and get it set on a truck. I was offered some standing feed for sale.
