Heifer calves

These are the bigger end of our heifer calves. Finally got a load of barley here yesterday so we can grain these as we have been graining the middle and little ends. Considering straight hay or haylage and the cold temps we had a bit back they look ok buy not like they should. Tomorrow…..

Thanks H, I still see lots of holes in them. I guess that is part of the fun and the challenge to make them better.

I enjoy seeing a little "color" and some hair on a set of calves! Here, the buyers discount anything that won't fit CAB specs and want slick haired cattle so the feedlot mud don't stick so bad! I'm still running cattle that have a bit of high-bred vigor and are adapted to our northern climate but definitely feel some peer pressure at marketing time!

I really need a closer look. Maybe if I was standing there next to ya I'd see they aren't as good as they look from a computer monitor in Utah. Road trip to BC anyone?

We forward contracted last year's steer calves in February, delivered in October. They were sold two months before they were born.
