I took a Fjord pack horse into the mountains once.... twice actually; the first time and the last time..... same trip. When I was a kid I put up with the Shetlands because I had no choice. As a semi-grown up I don't think I have to subject myself to the torture anymore. This horse was smart... too smart he could untie any knot you put in front of him, and was stubborn. Just like a Shetland really. Probably the toughest and strongest horse I've ever been around though, I'll give him that. I've talked to other folks who've had similar experiences, but it could well be that none of us have the right 'horse whisperer' approach for the beasts.

you bet I've been looking for one of these sleighs for about 10 years now , no more tipsy sleighing .

I've always wanted to try a team of Fjords and yeah I won't mind harnessing something smaller.
I've been told that they make good driving horses I know of a fella in South Dakota that has a pair , he feeds his cows with them all winter , seems to really enjoy them

There's two or three outfits feeding with Fjord teams up here right now-I'm just trying to convince one buddy he needs to get rid of his. Might not have many cows left around after next week.

Little bow rancher is it like a logging sleigh your getting hooked up. I had a nice all steel two bob deal I had rigged to feed with it was pretty smooth to ride but not sure how wide the runners were.

Funny to run across this post. Have been looking for a Fjord team as well...as age gets up there, the Percherons are just getting to be a chore to harness up. Some advertised in the Producer, but seem a little pricy, but perhaps you get what you pay for.
