Made a trip to Butte (in a full-blown blizzard) to see the 19 year old off!! About 1/2 hour before the flight was to depart, we were informed that all flights out were cancelled til morning! So, the kids and I said our "good-byes", cried lots of tears and wished him best!! His flight leaves Butte at 6 in the morning......destination FORT BENNING!!! Hang in there, son!! We're pulling for ya!!!

Your son has chosen a life of honor, good for him...that doesn't make it any easier to say goodbye though...Be proud of him...and go ahead and cry cause ya miss him...It's ok...He'll be just fine, and so will you...I've had to say goodbye to 2 military relatives...they're pretty use to seeing me in tears and blubbering each time they come back..lol Oh ya...emails are great nowdays...Keep us updated on how he gets along...good luck.

Aww hell, why am I blubbering away  ........I've never even met ya'll. My heart is breaking for you mom! and look at the little red noses on his sibs. He has chosen a life of honor. Here is to your boy !! May he stay safe.

Very touching photos ranchwife. My God be with him and keep him. Our prayers are with him, and you. Very hard thing you done today...and him as well.....you should be (and I"m sure you are) very proud of him.

:cry2: :cry2: Par usual I'm a blubbering mess...good luck to that young man of yours and mom..he'll be ok :)

I guess all of our hearts sink when we see a picture of a young man or woman going off to serve. Our prayers go with him and your family.
Please keep us up on how he's doing. The letters from our son in boot camp were priceless.

I think it is a damn shame we have to send boys off to war,Ranchwife,I will be praying for your boy,I know he will come home quite a man.
good luck & God Bless you and yours.

PS Tell your son he has the admiration & respect from Texas.

Good luck to him, and the rest of you! This is the daddy to be, right? How's the girlfriend handling it? Hang in there

thanks for the words of encouragement, all!!! Yes, this is very tough...did not sleep much again last night since I knew he'd be leaving so early this morning and I would not be there to give him one last hug!!  Yes, I am also very, very scared!! In the current state of affairs of our world, it's hard not to be! He is bound and determined to make a good, solid future for his daughter (due April 23 :D )....the little mama is taking it about like I am...tears and lots and lots of prayers!! she sure loves that boy of mine....errr...I mean "hers" !! Poor Riley/Ralphie cried all 80 miles home from Butte....he broke my heart...he and gussie just hung onto each other!!
THIS is the face that broke my heart....this is what I saw for over an hour on the drive home and then most of the rest of the night til he finally fell into blessed sleep!!!

Keeping my chin up, though, since I have the other 3 to keep me more than occupied!! Tonight is Gussie's "Senior Night" at her very last home basketball game and she will be getting a special award!! Can't wait!!

You said goodbye to your baby boy and before you know it and he will be returning a grown up man.... I have a lot of respect for these young men and their families....

Is he going to Boot Camp? It will definitely make him into a man. Keep heart, the time will fly :)

I was amazed our Marine made it through Marine boot camp. He was pretty determined :)

BTW, got email from him, maybe going back to base in HI in April. We'll see, though, Marines seem to give about a week's notice on everything :?

Your son has many "adopted parents" on here that will always have all of you in their thoughts and prayers. Don't let anyone except you call him a kid...........he is a man. If not for young men like him we would not be able to even be on this board. Thanks to all the fine young men and women who serve.

Remember, our greatest fears are just that fears. He will take care of himself................after all you have given him something to want to come home to.

In all these soldiers contributions we sometimes forget the families and their contribution. Thanks

Ranchwife,
You should all have tears because of pride, not because of fear. He will be alright and he will come home even more of a man. These young men are our future cause without them we will end up with nothing. I said along time ago that they are safer there than they are running around doing nothing here and after burying our friend last week, I am even more convinced of that. Be proud cause you should be. Those two little guys and Gus will end up like MCG, so proud of her brother that she wears Marine clothes everyday. As soon as you get an address back from him, get it to us so that we can include Jon in goody boxes and letters. You get Ralphie and Flint to write him every chance they get. Mail call is a big thing to help them get through Boot camp. I did not realize how much that support means to those until this summer when talking with a Marine here at the house who told me that anything from anyone was reason to endure cause people at home care. He said even the smell of an envelope from home was something he looked forward to.
Got a call from a friend this morning, her son is headed to the great cat box on Tuesday. She was a little on the stressed side too.
Don't worry, be happy

My thoughts are the same as all the other posts. One thing that struck me was, I wonder how many thoughts and prayers are going your way from how many different states and countries because of this board. I bet it is more than I can fathom. Take care and be proud!!!

Thumbs up to him from Central Sask!!!

Seriously, if I had to face this (going to the army) I wouldn't be able to do it, it takeas a real man to take the challenge, go for the whole 8 seconds, and grap it by the horns.

The Good Lord will give noone more than what they can handle.

Just want to say thnks for service.Hang in there and be careful/good-Mom may worry?Other than that all I have to offer is a "John Wayne" sayin' Courage is bein' scared to death, but saddlin' up anyways. Alway's worked for me-Good Luck . Greg
