Hesston Tractor Help

I had an 110DT that I had to change the crown and pinion in because the pinion nut had NEVER been staked. Hesston wouldn't do a darn thing for us.

I think I have a crown gear and pinion that my mechanic said should be changed but HESSTON said it was fine. I will look around to see if it's still in the shop.

Thanks guys. I called Bridgeport today and they are looking and are supposed to call me back.

Big Muddy if you have a chance to look, that would be great. I may be able to use them.

I don't really know why I kept them but the Crown and pinion are stored in a old house in the yard. Still in the box from Hesston .They look OK but I'm no mechanic.

Keep us posted on how the repairs go. I heard the tractor that we had gave the guy that got it many years of good service but somebody borrowed and broke it in two while carrying bales in the loader to fast.
I guess the guy fixed it but it was quite the job.

Mechanic found a complete salvage rear end somewhere up in Montana for $1,850. The guy is supposed to be checking it out to make sure it's okay to ship. Total for new parts is around $4,000 so for that difference I'll probably go that way considering what the tractor itself is worth.

If we end up needing a crown and pinion I'll be in touch!

Guess this is one subject I don't have any 'pinion on. Good luck.

was going to sugest trading it for a real green tractor, and for your IC guys you know why John Deers are green ..... so they can hide in the grass and watch real tractors work, tought the red ones were over ripe...

Well, I'd love to trade it for a better tractor, but at this point I can't afford to fix it and I can't afford not to fix it--especially when it's not paid for! Although Hesston was far from my first choice, it was a pretty decent FWA tractor that I could afford--until this happened anyway!

Speaking of jokes, do you guys know that FIAT stands for Fix It Again, Tony?

BTW, I think I figgered out what you guys are talking about when BMR mentioned CROWN gear and pinion. That must be Canuck-speak for RING gear and pinion as we rednecks here in the states refer to these Italian parts using American Engish!

BMR, do you put air in your tyres also?????    :D

The ring gear is what the starter engages on in Canada . :-)

BMR is right. It sure could have been worse. Anytime you do major surgery on a tractor and the bill comes in under $5K you've probably done alright. May I ask what is the shop rate of your tractor mechanic?

My sister just had the Dodge dealer ($70/hr) replace the water pump on her V6 '97 Dakota. I don't know what all they did except they did not replace the fan clutch because I specifically asked her that. Even with flush/fill and replacing all hoses and serpentine belt the $700 repair bill seems awful steep to me!

Valley Implement in Sturgis--$48/hour. They put 28 hours into the job. I thought their hourly shop rate was reasonable enough considering today's rates, but I didn't expect there to be quite that many hours in the job.

Richard, that's where I figured when you probably took a Fiat tractor in this part of the country!

Valley Imp has always done a good job for me. They did a $5K rear end rebuild on my MF tractor a few years ago. I have diverse colors of bought-used machinery but I bought my round baler new from VI mostly based on good past service experience. Once I got a few bugs worked out of the new model baler it hasn't needed much in parts or service.

Another thing about VI, I'd rather deal with a family owned business where you deal directly with the owners instead of flunkies like at the big chain dealers nowdays.

Shop rate reasonable?

Hell, it is a gift.

Shop rates for the three - yeah only three local dealers within 200 miles of us are all over 85 bucks an hour!

Every trip to the tractor doctor hurts big time.
