It's been a coon's age since I was able to drop by and see what's going on here! I've been busier than a one-legged fella in a butt-kickin contest!
4-H is geared up for another season, school's out for the rest of the kids, and things are moving right along.
Al's steer weighed 823# last Sunday, only 177# left before Aug. 24.....think he's gonna make 'er! A funny thing happened a couple of days ago, with him.....Hubby had gone riding, and when he got home and unloaded his caballo, he left the trailer gates open. This is the same trailer that we've been taking the calves up to the shippin corrals in, to weigh them every week. Guess ole Wheezmeister thought he was due for a ride, and climbed in..... It was all that Al could do, to get him unloaded before taking him for a ride. We've all laughed about that ever since.......
The heifer, Bandi-Cane, is doing well, too. She'd gained 36# in a week, bringing her up to 704#. I'm sure glad she doesn't have a min weight limit.....don't think we could get her up to 1,000# before fair time.
The CAs were over on Wednesday, we went to everyone's houses and tagged and weighed pigs, and tagged cattle, goats and sheep for 4-Hers and one FFA member who lives here. Wheez wasn't happy with getting his pretty yellow ear tag, but didn't throw near the fit his sister did....maybe she doesn't think she looks good in orange......
Al decided to "tag" 5 pigs.......they weighed between 55# (his little Duroc gilt) and 126# (one of the blue butt cross gilts). They have to weigh between 210 and 260# for the Fair, so think they'll be right in there. Not sure the Duroc is gonna make it, which is why he tagged the two crosses, too.
All in all, we did 2 bovines, 12 swine, 2 goats, and 3 sheep. It was a pretty full afternoon around here.
Other than that, I spend close to, or over, 12 hours a day at the station on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Heard the other day that the gal that works on Wednesday is thinking seriously about turning in her notice, so I could get another day thrown into my schedule. Maybe I should just take the summer off, and go back to work when school starts. Then I'd have a little bit of time, to spend with you guys! There seems to be lots of new faces here these days.
So, that's what's going on here........what's new in your worlds?
