Pretty observant Northern Rancher,I have shot my share of whitetail and this is the first one that I recovered the bullet,I dont remember one that I didnt shoot through........this buck was walking quartering away,130 grain 270 federal hit him in front of the last rib on the left side and lodged under the skin in front of his first rib on the right side perfect mush room............no more details or you will acuse me of braggin
good luck

Nice one Double H. Ain't that a few points more than your usual standard?
Finally got something to hang that Bob Wills hat of yers on, I guess.
Hey Northern Rancher don't be too hard on the old fella.
You may note he made that lower lung shot with iron sites.
I can smell the mesquite smoke already.
As soon as I can figure out photobucket again I'll hafta post mine. Humiliating as it is.

What did I tell you about horns boy ? makes me no differnce if he has 2 or 2 dozen, this ole buck was just in the wrong place at the right time :D
good luck

Ikinda figured it was a quartering shot-excellant choice of calibre and bullet-that's exactly what we use up north. He looks like he'd score imn the 145-150 range-a real nice buck.

yeah,I been shooting a 270 longer than I care to admit, got an ole ruger #1 in 270,been eyeing those Tika's tho I know the spelling is wrong but have a friend that has one, pretty nice..................good luck

I've got a Browning BBR in .270 that's done in alot of deer, bear and moose over the years. Ty has a .25.06 in A Tikka T3 laminate-it's a real nice gun-very well designed and a slick action to boot. He stillmisses Dad's old .270 and is saving up to buy a Tikka in that calibre.

Having owned several calibre's through the years including a 25-06,I will stick with a 270,plenty off punch and no recoil, hard to beat for a deer rifle..........good luck

PS That BBR is a slick gun too,if I remember right one of the things Browning claims is the short bolt throw.

I bought it when I was 18 with a 2x7 Leupold scope on it-it's seen some hard miles not much bluing left and all scratched up but still shoots. Not a big fan of the 'black rifle' craze that's on now-maybe for prairie dogs.

Me either,or bow hunting ,just dont have the time, I use to do alot of hunting, but in Texas its all pay hunting, once I found out what some folks will pay to hunt,I let them have it,still keep the ole 270 close tho
good luck
