I've always thought that part of Einstein's charm was in his playfulness. I would think that if you spent all your time dealing with the heavy topics of Physics and Mathematics that without a sense of humor, it would probably drive a person insane (ever seen "A Beautiful Mind"?). Unlike alot of sciences where you can develop a theory and play with it until it is proven otherwise, in Math, there is a right answer and I think you could easily go nuts trying to find it.
