Was wondering, if there was any impact on interest in the NHL in Canada due to the strike/lockout canceeling the whole season or has it just blown over and is it back to fandom as usual? It is hard for me to gather it with Chicago because insterest has been fading over the past decade or so with the lack of competative hockey being played by the hawks. And from the sounds of it, in the US market in general it is suffereing from kind of a.... eh.. disinterest in general (There could be tons of reasons for this, too many teams, people not being educated in the game in general, game not playing well on TV, geographic issues whatever) but sometimes the out of sight, out of mind thing of being gone for a year has to have an impact... Well, I know it does in the States, just wondering about Canada... No disrespect about the game intended at all...

Everybody just switched to watching more local or junior hockey but we were sure glad to get the NHL back. I wish they'd go to a ten team Canadian division and a ten team American division and put teams in hockey country not in places where they have no knowledge or love of the game. Chicago will rise from the ashes they have some good young players there.

How many teams have left Canada recently, Winnipeg Jets and another one if I remember correcty... one went down to Colorado and one to Arizona right? And the Whalers moved down to Carolina and the old North Stars became the stars but the rest of these teams (Blue Jackets, Wild, Sharks, Panthers and Predators) are all the recent expansion teams... Did I miss one? Too many dang teams IMO and not in the right areas probably..

I miss the old Norris, Smythe, etc divisons too but I guess that is just me being nostaligic... I don't know if Chicago will raise from the ashes as long as Dollar Bill Wirtz is alive. Man is so cheap he would squeeze shirt from a buffalo nickel so as these new players get better and hit paydirt levels they will be moving on.. Shame.. The old Chicago Stadium was.. well to me at least, a cathedrel to the game and they were the hardest tickets in town to get. It was a great experience and introduciton to the game and the passion of the fans.. Maybe I will run to a Mallards game this year (Local AHL team).. Chicago is moving their Minor league team to Rockford, which is 1.5 hours a way.. Might be fun to go watch.

When the Minnesota North Stars left for a warmer climate my interest in hockey did also.Never was much of a sports fan so it does'nt take much for me to lose interest.I would rather watch a bull sale on TV than sports.I do watch the PBR but mostly to watch my step nephew ride.

That was one of those BS sports moves... I remember folks in Chicago being real irritated with it.. The move really didn't make a heck of a lot of sense, kind of like when they moved the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore.

Chicago Stadium was the ultimate sports cathedral. We had a hockey beat writer who said the hair would stand up on the back of his neck every time they cheered right through the Stars and Stripes. Even though he'd been through it a dozen or more times. And the organ was awsome when the Hawks scored. Of course they've kinda wrecked Soldier Field too.
But the new Gary Bettman NHL has no room for nostalgia and tradition.
Next thing you know they'll kick the horse races out of the Calgary Stampede grounds.
Whoops, I guess that's going to happen too.
