Had an absolute blast today. Weather was fine and we got to ride great horses in pretty country. Looking south toward Desert Mountain. I was the first one to the gate so I got to open it for the others.
Weather forecast called for wind ahead of a front coming tonight. But to no ones surprise it didn't blow. We left our cowboy hats in the truck and went with ball caps. Stupid weather guessers.
We rode up on top of some long juniper choked ridges and split up. I dropped into the Dry Hollow where a recent juniper grinding project sure changed the looks of the country.
Picked up four head and started them out.
It's some thick nasty rocky country to run cattle. We love it!!!!
Knocked them off into the canyon bottom and headed them for the corral. We needed 50 and we got 35. We did get all the bulls which isn't a bad thing. Bulls are knuckleheads
Put them in the corral and went to hauling them home
Earlier in the day as I was riding of a thick steep little pocket onto a ridge following a fresh cow track I about fell off my horse. These were laying side by side up in a spot I've never thought to look for shed horns. He is a dandy buck from two years ago. Scored 185 if he hadnt broken his main beam
A wonderful day. The front did arrive but it snuck in without any wind to speak of. Every day on a horse on the desert is about as good as it gets.
When I die, take my saddle from the wall. Put it on my best pony and lead him out of his stall. Tie my bones to his back and point our faces to the west. And we'll ride the desert that we love the best!!!!
Part three will have to wait til next weekend. It ain't over til the ear tags are all found.
