A real good friend of ours that barrel races and is an excellent rider had an accident last Wednesday. We found out last night when we stopped in at the Feed store where she works. She was ridin a horse for a friend. Tryin to straiten a few small problems out that he had, but not bad problems. She was riding at home in her small pasture where she long trots and lopes her horses. Later that evenin her husband came home and found her crumpled by a gate and the horse laying a few feet from her knocked out cold. He talked to her enuff to get her to come to, and she was able to move outside the pen to a safer place. While her husband checked on the horse. He unsaddled the horse while it was still out cold, and smacked it a few times with the reins....finally the horse got up.

She can't remember what happened at all. All she knows is she was riding, and he was doin fine, not actin up at all. Over the next couple days, she was having trouble rememberin who her husband was, and that she was married at all. She went to the Dr Friday mornin, and was admitted into the hospital. She had a small pea size area on her brain that was bleeding, along with a very swollen knee. Other than that I don't know a whole lot. They are still runnin tests I'm sure.

Keep her in your prayers, that everything turns out ok. She's such a sweet sweet person.

this may seem like a really BIZARRE question, Lilly....but......
What was the weather like that day??? Lightning, by any chance??? If there was a "strike" anywhere NEAR where she and horse were working, this could POSSIBLY explain why she AND horse were out cold!!! I will certainly keep both of them in my prayers!!!

ranchwife ....that was the first thing I thought of also. I found one of my QH gelding knocked out cold in the pasture. It was a sunny day but storms had been within about 30 miles.

Later found out that lightning can strike up to about 40 miles away from the storm. Horse was fine....all the hair fell out of his tail and mane...and from then on he could hear a truck backfire or any loud noise and he'd squeal and run for the barn!

Had to put him up every time it rained, guess he thought he was gonna get struck again!

No it's not Lil Lilly's barrel coach. Just someone we've known for a long time and have watched her over the years. She's really good.

There weren't any storms in the area Wednesday at all. Was a nice sunshiney day. So lightenin is ruled out.

Keep us posted Lilly! Hope she is OK. That could have been a really bad one ..Yikes.... Man, I hate waking up on the ground after being out cold........

We made a real quick trip to the feed store yesterday afternoon, she was at work. Doin fine, with no lasting affects other than a few bruises. Lucky girl. I told her we sure were glad to see her back at work, and her first words were "I"m really GLAD to be back TOO!!" I didn't get to spend much time talkin with her, cuz we were in such a hurry to get back, we had some things goin on at the school we had to be there for. But alls well with her........and that's a good thang!!!
