Hide Slim Dusty from us for so long. I don't know how to post the links but go to You Tube and look him up. A few I really like are Leave him in the big yard, Battle with the Roan, A word to Texas Jack, Walk a country mile and A pub with no beer {even though I like the Irish Rovers rendition of this song a little better} and don't forget Waltzing Matilda! WARNING... you could be up late trying to listen to all his songs  :D :D

We had a pair of Aussies working for us at the ranch a few years ago. One of them made us a CD full of songs from their Homeland. There are quite a few Slim songs on it and it was the first time I had heard him as well.
Have you listened to Corb Lund? He's an Albertan artist that also tells stories through song. Highly recommended.

Slim Dusty is a good singer.

Jody Miller was a favorite back in my younger days. Here is her version of "The Race is On."

That is a bit different rendition than I have seen before. :D Thanks for the tip Soapweed. I will have to check out some more of her music when I get the time.

Glad you tried it out. That is a pretty cute video. :-)

Her video version of the song "The Race is On" might even be better than that of George Jones.

Speaking of playing the ponies, Peach and I watched the movie SECRETARIAT last evening, on PPV. That is a very good movie that we would recommend to anyone. Secretariat was quite a horse, with a heart that just wouldn't quit. Happily there are many descendants from him to keep the bloodline in force.

Back to Jody Miller. She was scheduled to perform at the Park Pavillion in Crawford in the spring of 1978. Being single, footloose, and fancy free, I had every intention of going to see her, but another young lady who I kind of liked sent me a letter inviting me to a dance in Ashby. Since this was a very tough choice, my own mother witnessed the coin toss that made my decision. Ashby won. Since my neighbor was playing in the band that night another friend and I decided to save gas and ride down with him. After arriving, the girl who had invited me to come showed up with another boyfriend. She was mainly interested in lining me up with her sister, but alas, I wasn't interested in her sister. Since my friend and I had no wheels with which to make a departure, we were stuck on location until the dance ended and the last dog was hung. :? I've always been curious how the evening would have turned out had the coin flopped over the other direction.

Sorry for the hijack, cowboyup, but while we are on the subject of Jody Miller, I looked up her webpage. She was born November 29, 1941.
She is a Christian and now performs with a gospel band.

This is her webpage: http://www.jodymillermusic.com/

This is her Christian testimony, which is quite interesting: http://www.jodymillermusic.com/testimony.html

No troubles Soapweed, that was a great story, often we come to a crossroads and after following our choice wether it be a coin toss or the best informed guesstimated choice we wonder what could have happened had we chosen differently! Human nature I guess.

Hey, Soap, I hope you know I was kiddin'.
I've been trying to re. this for a couple of days, but in the eves, I can't get on Ranchers, net for some reason. Anyway, I just wanted to say, I do a plenty-good job of providing for my own corruption, you know, like in James1:14. I actually couldn't go to sleep 2 nights ago thinking about it. (my smart-ash comments-tryin' to be funny) I couldn't get on the website 'cause it was buzy or something, I guess.
But I'm glad you showed where the Lady is nowdays, I think her old stuff is pretty cool, I remember alot of it and I hadn't heard it in years.
