We got done with corn and beans in Iowa and now on to South Dakota Sunday to start. How is planting going for everyone else?

All done planting and the corn is knee high. Went over it with round up 4 days ago and that should be the last time we will be able to get over it. So the corn has been put to bed till harvest.
They finished planting cotton last week and most of it is up.
I need to cut hay but I am waiting on the weather.

My sons are done with there corn, I just got started on Friday, 1" of rain over the weekend.

We have been spolied the last few years - - - normally we are done by now but with the rain and cold we have had this year we only have about 150 acres of corn and 200 acres of soybeans in the ground. Forcast is for rain 5 of the next 7 days.

Got about 800 acres of each left to go.

But I remember that in 1974 I was listening to the 500 mile race while planting and we had a great crop.

Still too wet in some areas around here as the snowmelt from the drifts in the coulees was still running off the fields a couple weeks ago- then got an inch and half of rain- got another little shower yesterday and its piddlying around trying to rain again today- temp is only 54 with a nippy wind....The fertilizer truck got buried twice Sat in a neighbors field  Still have plenty of time up here, and the moisture is sure bringing up the grass :D ......

Thanks for the replies. We got the equipment moved to SD, but too wet to get started. So back home till later. It finally is not raining today. Three days of solid rain was enough for me.

corn is already peeking through in some fields here....trying to decide on planting beans or swathing hay........

I have about 60 acres of pasture planted and ready to start on wheat. I'm going to try to spray some quack grass tomorrow if the weather holds. We're about a month late as winter held on so long and the had one of the wettest Aprils on record.

Got 75 acres of Barley and 75 acres of replant pasture/ annual ryegrass planted about 3 weeks ago. 1200 acres of crop ground that we rent out is all planted down now too in corn... I would say most all the corn is in now in the area becasue people were working round the clock before this last rain came in... No one is getting in the fields for a while now however as it rained an AWFUL lot this past weekend. Good for my pastures :D

This is a dryland pasture mix of pubescent wheatgrass, intermediate wheatgrass, meadow brome and ladak alfalfa. this is planted in farm ground that I can't irrigate but could possibly hay on a wet year. Most likely it will be fall pasture.

That is about the same mixture the local seed shop is recommending up here for a pasture/hay mixture-- said they have had really good luck with it as some of the grasses grow earlier than others, some last for years as the others die out- can't remember which did which now......

I've got a couple hundred acres of dryland wheat land that I've been thinking about putting into pasture one of these years- if and when I do, I think I'll use that or a similar mixture and instead of ladak mix in some of that new falcatta (no bloat) yellow alfalfa and give it a try......

With the cool spring we are having I wish I had everything seeded to fescue/orchard grass-- that stuff loves cool and is really coming....

We have our spring wheat planted and the winter wheat fertilized. We had worms in our alfalfa, so we sprayed for them. Roscoe is working corn ground now, but it's way to early yet. Only have maybe twenty to calf yet. We have been calving only a month. We will brand not this weekend, but next and sort the heavies off and move the cows and calves away to another pasture till we go to grass in June....This is subject to change....

Hey feeder, I noticed on Sioux Falls news that it was getting wet down there!

If you've had enough, please send it Northwest, and make sure it makes it west of the ol' Missouri River please!!!

Good luck planting...we're done with our barley/pea mix and oats and will be awhile until corn. If the wind stops blowing at 30 mph plus, Mr TTB plans on spraying.

Cheers---

TTB

TTB, I'd love to send some your way. We are wet here. I don't think we will be back in the field till next week.

We were feeling pretty good on Tuesday evening when it started raining - - - 1,700 acres in the ground only about 300 to go.

It has rained off and on ever sence - - - in the 30s last night and high for today forcast at 52 Rain is forcast clear thru Wendesday with temps to average 20 degrees below normal

The weatherman keeps talking about the problems at the Indy 500 - - - I guess everyone has their own set of problems.
