Huggins Chokes

how soon does KU play a team beginning with a "B"?

did not see the game, but saw they were with in 2 , with 20 seconds left....

how is it choking when we did better than we have for several years? Jeeze Brad, you need to lighten up. this streak of anger will kill you if you are not careful

I will go to utube and find a nice KU highlight reel for you to watch..... the one where Roy Williams says "I'm Stayin!" that is my favorite!

Anger? The whole world laughing at KSU has nothing to do with anger. If you saw the end of the game, you no doubt saw KSU again embarrassing the Big 12 with their stale "throw crap on the floor" schtick.

Don't worry about any team's beginning letter in the real tournament, that tourney doesn't concern you. If it did, you'd know how stupid KSU/WSU morons look taunting Kansas for 2 first round losses in a tourney that excludes KSU and WSU. Stupider still ignoring 7 final fours in the last 20 years.

Its choking when loser nation, to every last silly emaw, pi$$ed and moaned KSU belonged in the field of 65, and they can't even make the semifinals of the tournament playing for 66th.

Why is it that Kansas wants their coaches to stay, but the community college always wants rid of their coaches?

By the by, Who is U of Mich going to hire - perhaps someone from WV?

I talked to a few guys who went to the game this morning....they said KSU did not deserve to win for the way the played.

shots just would not fall in the first half, and free throws were the difference.
said Depaul fed off our crowd....what ever the hell he meant by that.

I find it funny that you can not cheer the advance of your Gayhawks, with out running down the Wildcats....must be the liberal in you! almost sound like a Fusker.

KU sucks, both on the court, and on their knees in the locker room. If they win the whole thing, I will chop up my Wildcat hat and mail it to you. If they don't, you have to stop whacking off to the picture of Bill Self and Roy Williams embracing.

Being in Big Ten country the rumour right now is Southern Illinois coach is going to be in hot demand in both UM's coaching searches this spring. He would be the third former SIU coach heading up a big ten program along with Weber and Painter over at Purdue. Midmajor success dosn't always transfer to big program success but who knows.. These rumours are out of Chicago and that area follows SIU basketball about as much as would Virginia Commonwelth.

DePaul used to have one heck of a program under Ray Meyer back in the day.. He coached there forever, He might have been Mikins coach. They were bigger and more popular in Chicago than the Bulls were in the pre Jordan era. But he retired, was replaced by his son and the program just fell apart. Son was finally fired (5 years later tha he should have) and was replaced with Bill Kenedy who was fired and went out to Univeristy Of Montana and is now at Towsen state I think. Whatever, it doesn't matter, but if the new coach can get things straigtned out, tap into the Chicago Public league (talk about non qualifiers) it could be a progam on the rise.

maybe the UM job will be filled by Bo Schembeckler.... I hear he is just laying around these days./

Word is West Va coach is leading for Mich, and guess who's dream job is at west Va, Yup Thuggs, and Beasley is NOT inked at KSU - only a verbal.
Could be interesting. The best thing for KSU is for Huggs to leave and replace him with Scotty Sutton (ORU)

I root like hell for Wooly, and even Thugs - I only mention the Huggs choke to those that already mention the lame B school smack. carping on a couple first round losses when Kansas has been going to more than a final four every third year is just weak.

One Quentin Richardson chose DePaul over Kansas, and he is the 1 player we needed to get over the final four to title bridge. Any school in Chicago can be very good at hoops. There are more bigtime players coming out of Chi every year than all of Kansas in the last 20 years.

My only problem with KSU game last night was KSU didn't value the ball or exploit their inside matchups enough. All this is big time point guard vs pretty good point. DePaul is good if they can make the game a midmajor game. DePaul forced Kansas into a midmajor style earlier this year, and that is one of Kansas' 4 losses.

"KU sucks, both on the court, and on their knees in the locker room. If they win the whole thing, I will chop up my Wildcat hat and mail it to you. If they don't, you have to stop whacking off to the picture of Bill Self and Roy Williams embracing."

Me thinks the lady doth protest too much.

A lot of talent out of The Peoria area too. I think Kruger and Self both recrutied well out of that area as well as east St. Louis. Chicago Public League is not an easy leauge to recruit is the problem. The coaches have a lot of sway over their players and estentailly have black balled certain schools/coaches in the past. Lon Kruger was basically persona non grata in Chicago because, gasp, when Lou Henson left the school decided to hire Kruger instead of Jimmy Collins, a black assistant who got mentioned in a lot of recrutting problems even if nothing ever came of the investigations.. Collins is now coaching University of Illinois Chicago I think.. Ahh, I had some good times on that campus, lol.

The other problem with the Chicago kids is, I hate saying this, they just don't qualify or stay out of trouble when they are at school.. The other problem is they sometimes have problems qualifying.. Back in 94 or so Keven Garnett and this kid by the name of Ronnie Fields played at Farragut highschool. Amazing teamates for the one year Garnett was in Chicago. Ronnie was about a 6 3 guard who had a vertical leap like no other but, his grades showed him to be about as bright as a 1 watt bulb.. Well, he couldn't qualify and so he decided to enter the draft but before the draft happened he was driving somewhere, flipped the car and broke his neck.. Has only played CBA since as it really messed with his court vision"... Just a sad story really, kid had tons of potential.. Now, he could have gotten the scholorship and flipped the car at 3 am too and be in the same boat..

Self will probably bring a bunch of chicago kids in.. I think there are two on the team right now, supposedly they had a little trouble when they came back to Chicago earlier this year.. Nothing criminal or anything, just having to deal with family and friends distractions..

Why would Kruger leave UNLV for KSU?

Kruger is an all American type kid from Silver Lake (40 miles away from KSU) - all sport letterman in high school that could have had pro talent in baseball and football. He started at pg 3 or 4 years at KSU under Hartman and KSU won their last conference titles with Kruger (3 or 4 titles). Kruger returned to KSU in the 80s for about 4 years, and competed at a level that could have won a title. Elite 8 in 1988, I can't remember what else, but making the tourney wasn't an issue. Never would have left KSU for anywhere, but the rumor is his wife met his girlfriend. Girlfriend was legal age, and not in a professor/student relationship. No big deal except to his wife, and I think she demanded the move. Just 1 more guy that shoulda known better. Kruger would be the real deal, but if that was going to happen KSU would have made the hire instead of Huggs.

Jankovitch just got hired by Illinois State, he was even married to Hartman's daughter. He's a great coach and bleeds as purple as Mikey Evans, but the purple turned on him because he stayed with Self when Self came back to Kansas. Jank's biggest head coaching job was at N Tx - not as high profile as Cincy was for Huggs, but a good hire.

Okay... that makes some sense if he has a good long history with the school... With no ties to KSU I couldn't imagine leaving UNLV for it.. I know, big west vs Big 12 but in basketball that can be less of an issue than in football and KSU isn't exactly a juggernaut of a program (Neither are either of the U's I attened for that matter)..

Wasn't even aware Illinois State (Pretty minor school in the state, unless you are an alum, located not too far from here actually) hired a new coach. Know that Northern illinois just hired the former head guy at Colorado but that is about it...

SIU should be a good challenge for Kansas and the Jayhawks aren't going to like the style that SIU plays... Mid Major or not, some of these teams are getting really good at finding good players that will stick around for 4-5 years instead of the guys who leave after 1 or 2 years... Does make a difference.. DePaul as well on the way to recovering until their coach left and went to Viginia.. That was a blow to the program but the replacement they got seems to be a good match. Stepping up to the Big East from Conference USA will probably be a blessing long term if they can compete, as is playing some games on campus again (Tiny fieldhouse) vs the Horizon...

A little FYI about the KSU gig. THey've fallen on hard times the last 25 years, but before that they were one of the real elite powers in the country. Tex Winter and Cotton Fitzsimmons are 2 of the greatest coaches of all time and KSU is their home. Cotton invented the triangle and Tex the motion (Princton) offense. When money took over the game, along came rules changes that really favored the urban game/athlete. Tex Winter was smiling when the US national team of allstars got schooled by foreign basketball purists (that hurts to write). THe trouble with KSU today is recruiting, but all the early exits to the NBA may help their situation.

The kids in Kansas (the state) think KSU is a football school, and have no reverance for Mike Ahern fieldhouse. Yikes I feel old.

yes, it is sad to see all these young kids who have no idea that
KSU is actually a basketball school

Sounds as if University of Iowa will have an opening soon as Alford is making a run for it before he gets canned..... Same report had Michigan and Minni pursuning Xaviers coach... Other rumours include Gonzaga's coach, Creightons coach and SIU's Lowery as possibilities... I would imagine Iowa will look at them as well (Also at Kruger)...
