Gunplay involved in sheep argument

LIVINGSTON — The state Fish, Wildlife & Parks Department confiscated a Rocky Mountain big horn sheep after two hunters argued over who shot it and one allegedly fired a warning shot at the other.

The trophy ram was shot at sunrise Friday in the Daisy Pass area near Cooke City. Both men said they shot the ram, said Park County Undersheriff Gary Tanascu.

The confrontation escalated until one man pointed his rifle at the other hunter and fired a warning shot, Tanascu said.

The Park County sheriff's office is still investigating and did not release the name of the suspect.

Pointing a gun at someone is a felony assault with a weapon, Tanascu said.
