This is Ghost, she usually turns up about a month after we wean. Her philosophy: You don't bother me and I won't bother you.

Thanks for the pics, I like your cows (especially the red ones  )
Sounds like your getting a last little blast of the cool stuff, I hope it doesn't work it's way up here, it was about +9C here today, -5 tonight. Just right.
Congrats on the good luck, I hope it holds.

Gcreekrch, I can assimulate with your twins situation.....have had 2 sets so far, but lost one from each set...............really varied in size per set...one small & one real big...big ones didn't make it.......changed my whole "watch" schedule now, doing it more often......... :???:

Nice photos. I look forward to more from your end of the world. I'd say your have a few more trees and hills than we do. Looks quite a bit like the country I was raised in.

We have twins running outta our ears too...I think something like 15 sets  we've lost a couple of full sets--one set out of a red gene carrying black cow--came tail first--and one calf was black and one was red. Another our of a first calf heifer. So we've re-mothered a few, and have several sets which both babies are on Mom. Those cows get extra cake for loving them both! Needless to say our milk replacement bill is pretty stout.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers---

TTB

See I knew you could figure it out!!!! Nice pictures. They look good. Now are you going to give us the detailed grizzly story?

TTB - 15 sets? Holy cow

Congrats! Your pictures look great. Last year I had a lot of twins, but this year none, with only 10 left to calve. Good luck with the rest of your calving.

Yes, and I might even be low...don't remember exactly what Lazy Ace said. And we have another...so 16 + sets. I don't know how many cows we've calved out, but I don't think more than 200...we're just starting. I always thought that some of our twinning was because we give PGF 2 alpha after watching cows for 5 days to somewhat synchronize for AI. But we have just as many twins in our commercial cows that are not AIed and in our registered cows that we turn out with the bull at the beginning of the season.

Makes me wonder if we are in "synch" with our grass in our grazing system, even though we calve starting in late March and in April, as we are obviously flushing a (probably) highly fertile set of cows.

While we pasture calve we try to be pretty diligent in watching the cows (for reasons like our cow with twins that had the tail coming first). I often wonder if folks have more twins than they know, but because of calving in large pastures (sections instead of quarters) I wonder if they miss them. I am in no way, shape or form trying to bash anyone, as this is the setting my Dad calves in. If a cow had twins, and left one, he'd likely not find it unless it showed up doggied at water or something.

Hope calving is going well for everyone still calving, and the calves are going quickly for those who are all calved out!

Cheers---

I think your probably right on the twins in larger pastures. We hardly ever have twins and don't really care to. OR we don't find them. In fact right now we have a calf with two mothers. Two were born at the same time and one died and both Hfrs claimed one calf so we just left them. We watch but he sucks them both. :-)

:D I'm happy you got the picture thing down, now get posting more

Oh you guys have alot of snow and cold weather. We've had thick fog last two morns...isn't that supposed to mean rain in a few months :???: Probably the week I spend at Hardisty Lake.

Nice red cattle....Ghost looks spooky :P

If the postal service "Priority Post" wasn't so slow I'd send you a couple to take up the slack. :D Then again we usually manage to kill a few so I guess we'll use them up. (I hope) :(

I know it looks pretty cluttered and unfinished but that's actually our basement. :)

Those are the first 2 that have been cold enough to come in, hopefully the last.

Wish all you folks in that storm down there the best. We saw some of the aftermath in Arkansas on the News tonight. We're quite happy for the moment on top of our mountain, thank you.

Great pics Gcreek. Ghost reminds me of a cow I just shipped, and her name was actually Spookum. She'd flat out eat ya come calvin' time if you got within 100yds. And she could cover 100yds faster than any cow I've ever seen.

Come to think of it, I should have sent her up to Northern. He could have crossed her with his EXT's, er... I mean, his bucking stock, and had quite a strain started there. :P
