Our Ag student from France arrives on the plane today at Anahim Lake International.

He has been at our friend Tsawwassen John's for 2 nights and a day seeing a bit of Vancouver before getting dumped into the wilderness. Hope his next 7 weeks are enjoyable and educational.

Thanks SSAP for giving us this opportunity.

7 weeks in the wilds of BC with you as a tour guide/role model ought'a be plenty to get 1 French kid well on his way to becoming a doctor or lawyer or executive in a huge city!   Talk about culture shock! Have fun and hope it works well for you all.

Now how exactly does a guy get on that exchange list??? :D Mrs. H says she will exchange her husband for Debbie for a few weeks if ya wanta swap. She also mentioned something about a no return policy? :???:

He's a nice young man, maybe too nice for this outfit. :D I think he might be wondering just where he put himself at the moment because of the lack of people but he's interested in the area and not afraid to ask questions.

He speaks English far better than we speak French.

Taking him to Bella Coola on Sunday to let him see a tame rodeo before the Anahim Lake Stampede the following weekend. The mountain crew can get a little carried away at times.

I wanted to share this ... and thank gcreek :D
I had also heard the same news from our "adopted" french family who had lunch with Mathieu's family.

gcreek's "view" is Matt's facebook profile page :D

Hello Connie !

I want to say (write !) a big thank you for giving me the opportunity to have a Canadian experience !

That was a very very .... very good trip ! I learnt a lot of things about an other way of life with no people and a lot of mosquitoes !!! I was very sad when I left the Guichon Creek Ranch but that mean that I had a great moment with them !
They (and you !) live in a crazy country, every morning the temperature was below 0 and I saw many wild animals during 2 months !
I have some many stories to tell to my family and same for pictures !
I would like to do it again ... maybe one day !

So, thank you so much !
I hope you've had a great summer !

Best regards,

Mathieu

Gcreek and Debbie you changed a life forever this summer.

I had sent a youtube link to CW McCall, Wolf creek Pass last winter to a cousin that came out from Toronto as 16 yr old that knew it all.
Here is what he wrote back about 34 years later.

"OK, now you really started something ....

Geez.... I spent days and days listening to this great music in the cab of the 970.
forgot how much I enjoyed it all really.

Playing this music reminds me of a lot of things, and many things unsaid over the years.

Here comes the sentimental bit:

I was listening to CW and a flood of great memories came over me.

Working on the ranch was a very formative time for me.... I grew up a lot. I was given tasks and responsability.

You all taking in a strange kid in from the city was really something. I felt welcome like family. I have Fern, Edward and you Michael most of all to thank.

Imagine a snooty nosed city kid moving in with you in the old blue trailer ! 3 gallons of hot water and all...brrrr.

I have only gotten it in the last few years how much of a pain that must have been for you. Me invading your space. you took it well as i remember.

My life was never the same after the first ranch summer. I was a ranch man. Not just some city slick kid.

Do I mention now slow gin and the lovely Tamela at the Plentywood drive in, in the power wagon.....smokey and the bandit.....remember it like yesterday.

My friends in Ontario did not know what to make of me when I got home. Kinda dangerous. CASE ball cap and just a hint of red man chewing tobacco.........I had ranch pride.....still do...

Remind both Fern and Edward for me will you, if the topic comes up. Their generosity is never forgotten."

Brings back alot of memories for me as well.

:D

We would say a big THANK YOU to you also Connie for giving us the opportunity to host Mathieu. We were likely as apprehensive as Mathieu before he arrived but he left as a part of our family. For as long as he will claim us. I can only imagine the culture shock of leaving a city of 1,300,000 people and arriving as the only plane passenger in Anahim Lake. Lots of laughs, lots of learning on both sides and a lot of things accomplished. ( We even taught him a bit of Chilcotin English! )

I answered the questionaire from the college that if all their students were Mathieu's calibre, they could send as many as were interested. :D

You can bet there are two Chilcotin ranch folks that were a little blurry eyed the day he left. Empty nest syndrome all over again. :(

So Mathieu, when you read this, ( and he is registered), come back whenever you're of a mind to. You can even bring Cloe (sp?) for inspection by your adopted parents. :P You are part of our family, from grass roots to cloud. :tiphat:
