Is anyone Age & Sourcing this year?

At one time, there was some talk about it not being relevant with up-coming changes in trade agreements, etc. A few days ago, Trent Loos said he had his calf crop certified for the EU.
Is there still an advantage to age & source?

On the Red Angus Source and Age tag, the age isn't as important as it once was, but the source is. By using the Red Angus S/A Tag it proves that they are at least 50% Red Angus or by packing terms 50% Angus, which in turn gets the Red hide into certain programs, where they wouldn't qualify for off of color alone like the black hides do.

I am not even sure of the names of the programs, this is what I was recently told by the Red Angus office. I know CAB isn't one of them, and most likely never will be.

I am not a hundred percent but i do believe it will qualify you for angus source and all the programs that fall under it

I age & sourced my calves last year but it didn't generate a premium. The calves sold well and other groups that weren't age & sourced brought the same money. I heard a rep from Creekstone talking on the radio last week and he was stressing the need to utilize the process because that's all Creekstone buys. I know Creekstone is a unique player but it did make me wonder if I should reconsider.

I would guess that in a good market it may not make much of a difference. I would bet it would be the down markets you would see the return. And it's good to be prepared for a down market :?

I have been age and source verifiying my calves for several years. I doesn't take much to get back the $4.00 tag fee. A penny per pound on a 400 pound calf? A no brainer in my book.

The AngusSource program is only for Black Angus-sired cattle and the Red Angus tag program is reserved for cattle that are of at least 50% Red Angus influence, according to the web site. Both programs are good and valuable, as are other Age/Source verified programs that don't have a breed component. Lots of feedlots are still not interested in bidding on non-ASV cattle. I'd recommend staying hitched to ASV if you've already been doing it. Cheap way to get access to all bidders and buyers. My opinion alone. :shock:
