It's A Small World
I went on a wild trip once upon a time
Bus took me to Billings, end of the line.
I was supposed to be in Cody the next day
The Irma Motel was where I was supposed to stay.
That's what my ticket said,
I ended up sleepin at a cousins house instead
Next morning got a call they'd found me a ride
To Cody Wyoming over on the other side.
Got there too late and missed the main crew.
Middle of the afternoon and nothing to do.
Horse wrangler was coming through about midnight
Said by the time we got there it might be light.
A one eyed character driving a mountain road.
And I added to his already filled load.
That's when I first met him, back in 1969
And I wondered what had become of him all this time.
I never forgot his face or his name
And today I met a man with the same.
After all these years gone by,
I found out he didn't die
Probably still tough as an old Hoss
That one eyed Horse wrangler I knew as Ross.
When I get his number I'm going to give him a call.
And bet he won't remember me at all.
Till I tell the story about a log drug across the trail
A horse called Old Roany, an Appaloosa without much of a tail.
He might just remember that South Dakota kid with a rope.
And our paths will cross again I sure do hope.
---------------------
I just found out this feller is retired and now lives in Gordon NE.
I met him at Cody WY 44 years ago, Never forgot his name. Ran across his nephew near Rosebud and found out what had become of him.
Hope to meet up with him this summer.
