We have had a couple of pretty nice days after a long cold snowy spell but this afternoon it snowed a couple more inches and now the "Alberta clipper" that was predicted has hit. We are supposed to get winds to 60 mph. Yippeee.

Lots of snow in the hills. Maybe with any luck this wind will open up some grazing :?

Not a moment too soon. 6C today, no wind. Beautiful day. The cows have been out grazing bunches etc. all this time but today they really look happy about it. :)

an unexpected 7 inches of snow here Friday night into Saturday, another 2-4 inches on tap tomorrow followed by 40 MPH winds....no wonder why there is a blizzard watch posted here for late tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow night

Winds howling here now (30-gusting to 45) --but I don't think it will open up much for grazing down here as the rain/snain we got the other day put quite an ice coat on the snow we have- and all the snow we got today (skiff) was wet as it was 34 degrees...Temp is 31 here now....

Weather boys say after a couple of cold (below zero) days this week- they believe it will warm up into the mid 30's or 40's starting Friday...The really good news is they are seeing a major long term change in the weather pattern and the Pacific front is strenghtening pushing the path of all those arctic fronts we been getting further east-- over Minn/Chicago way... :D Two week forecast is for above normal (possibly well above) temps- and little moisture.... :D :D :D

WIND WARNING: Medicine Hat-Bow Island-SuffieldIssued at 7:39 PM MST SUNDAY 11 JANUARY 2009
STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS THIS EVENING.

NORTHWEST WINDS OF 60 GUSTING TO 90 KM/H ARE EXPECTED TO LAST FOR A FEW MORE HOURS THIS EVENING IN THE WAKE OF A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WHICH TRACKED ACROSS CENTRAL ALBERTA TODAY. WINDS REACHED 70 GUSTING TO 110 KM/H THIS AFTERNOON NEAR CORONATION. THE STRONG WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD SOUTHWARD THROUGH SOUTHEASTERN ALBERTA THIS EVENING. SNOW FLURRIES MAY ACCOMPANY THE STRONG WINDS AND WILL AT TIMES PRODUCE LOW VISIBILITIES IN BLOWING SNOW. CONDITIONS WILL GRADUALLY IMPROVE LATER THIS EVENING AS THE LOW MOVES FURTHER SOUTHEAST.

Well elwapo- I just saw a few of your bales fly by- but didn't even slow down for me to catch them...Somebody in South Dakota will probably get them... :P

About the time I was going to post that the wind was 58 mph that flew by  -- and we lost our electricity- so I went to bed.....
I see we had wind gusts 72 mph-- rain, snain, and snow during the night....Temp has dropped from 34 degrees when I went to bed to 2 Below this morning...

At least the wind had dropped down to about 10 mph- but I'm wondering what I'll find when the sun comes up....I better pack my hammer with me to get all the gate plungers and chains, I'm sure I'll find frozen solid, open...
Bring on that Pacific Front...

Wow, I must be just west of all that carnage. Mild -10, no wind and hoar frost. Look beautiful out there. What a difference a few hundred miles makes. :?

Well, this morning we've got 4 loads of the heavier steers we've been backgrounding sorted up and locked in the corral, consigned to sell today, but too windy for cattle pots to go out.....so the wind either goes down soon or we try again next week. Supposed to load wheat out today as well. I don't think it would make it from the end of the auger into the grain trailers.

Light freezing rain last night and then the wind hit early this morning. I bet the blacktop is fun!

TV morning weather guy reported 77 mph wind in Rapid City. 81 mph in Newell SD. Most schools in NW SD closed.

Now I'm listening to the morning livestock market reports on the radio that got delayed an hour because of the live presidential press conference.

It's blowing like a beast here. Lost power during the night for several hours and won't be surprised if it doesn't happen again.

38 degrees here, with the forecast for right around 35 all week, 2 heifers calved last night...let the games begin!

Got to 53 today  and that was mostly cloudy! There is water running everywhere, snow is as wet as it can be and still be snow. We've got 5 AI calves...of course no one calved today :?

Thawed here today, we've had 10 inches of snow in the last week. Got Roy's meadow road plowed out and have started hauling hay from there. It is about 25 miles west of home as the crow flies, we have about 14 inches on the ground here and at Roy's there is close to 3 feet. Always is a big snow-belt in that area. At 11 bales to a load I will be a while moving 450 bales, can't get a big truck in there yet. Maybe next year.......
