My cutterbar drive is bent and needs replacing, something happened to it, the rubber is ripped on the bottom and a big gouge is taken out of the shaft where it got off center.

How do I remove the disc (number 8 on the left side) so I can remove the drive? I don't want to remove anything more then neccesary obviously.

I am not sure on a JD, but I know a Krone you have to remove every gear to get to the end cutter head gear. I alway hear JD has a plate on top that you take off to get to every gear. It looks like you have been to JD parts diagram web-site.

But if you haven't this might help you. Just type the model number in the top left corner.

I was hoping to go from the top, I took the gearbox off a few years ago to replace a seal, will that need to come off or can I get away with leaving it, I'm thinking I can? I took the two number 13 covers off, do I need to go in through the top of the "drum" thing? Is that part of the cutter or can I loosen the bolts down inside there and slide it up and get to the bottom of the shaft thing?

Once you start your 1/2 done.Their just bolts and from what I know there's no real short cuts other than to just git it done. We've got the head off our corn chopper redrilling and taping some bolt holes that hold the gather on I know working on this stuff sucks but look at it your making $60 an hour or more thats what the shops charge here.

Even if you work half as fast as a shop you will be making decent money. Shop here would be $100/hour. Short cuts usually take longer.

Denny and Per are right Ben. Around here it's called learning by doing. Just resist the use of hammers, visegrips, etc and you will make out fine. :D

No hammer or Visegrips? :???:

Are their other kinds of tools?

Adjustable Spanner

Number 8 is a blade holder just like no. 2 but it has a hat welded on top. Take the top off the hat and uesing a long extension socket remove the bolts inside number 9 or 11. after that I don't know .
Just exactely whitch part do you need to replace?

Number 3 and Number 7 on the top section are what I have to replace by the first look. Hopefully it won't be more then that. I see the new models aren't fully shielded so you can access that shaft.

I haven't gotten further on it due to my off farm job durring the week (I'm typing this from there).
