The boys were all home, so we did our little bunch last evening. The girls and the oldest son vaccinated and ran irons to one of the other sons or me after we got one streeched out and held with the horses. Fun and we got the work done. good thing there weren't any more than there were or we would have ran out of daylight!

We started about 6:30 and them boys really need to work on their heel loops!

And the "littlest cowboy" got to go to his first branding. (Well, at least the first one he might remember, as he was only about 6 months old last year.) He seemed to enjoy it and really liked when he got to ride with his daddy! :)

Next year, we'll have him ahorseback and roping!

Him and gramma kept pretty busy making sure everyone did their job right!

His momma was either running me irons or taking these pictures. Thanks Kass! :D

Ohhhhhh...is that ' my' movie star horse you're riding there JB?????!!!! You EVER get tired of that critter.....just give me a call I've got plenty of room in GA!!

Now if you'd done that a wee bit earlier look at all the extra help you'd had ( us!!) ...... I've done a branding or two in my day!!!

Looks like a party!

I wasn't ridin' the "movie Horse" , second son and grandson were. Your friend didn't look like he was too much into roping cattle!

I don't know who had the wrangler butt, but it wasn't me, I wear Levi's. Wranglers are made for young, slender, small butted people. I don't fit any of those catagories! It might have been Jingles Jr.

Ranchy
I would be the real good lookin' feller with the mustache!

Big Muddy
If I didn't know you better, I'd swear you was jealous! Or was that Tam and she forgot to switch names?
White pants and running shoes is probably son number uno, who is studying to be a priest. He is spending a year in Spearfish and it was his day off, so that is why we did it.

Son number dos, got off from work about 4:30 so they rushed out.

Jingles Jr was home for the day hangin' with the old man and his wife got off work in time to come and help. Her main job was catching my colt after I got off and branded as the smell of the smoke(and about everything else, these days, makes her go URP!) and bringing him back to me.

Sure is fun to work with homegrown help. And it sure was fun to shout orders at them and remind them what sorry help they all were. 'Specially the ropers!

'Course, I was smilin' as I did it.

Of course, it wasn't as much fun when they hollered back at me!  :x
And I don't think they was smilin'!

I can't complain about their skills. I taught them and they sure seemed to have learned real well. :)

geesshhhhh if yall are gunna be looking at wrangle butts ya better be able to place them
jinglebob is the one in the chinks.......

Me and the youngest love to go to brandings, but I've gotten pretty fussy in my old age. I don't care to work with drunks and team ropers. I like working with good hands who don't chouse the cattle and make sure they ain't gettin' old fat men cripploed up!

I'd love to come to yours, but I'm afraid the ranches around here have me previously occupied! I keep thinking that one of these days I'm going to go help Soapweed and Saddle Tramp, but I'm afraid they like GOOD help! 'Sides, that dang cost of fuel and getting someone to watch these yearlings in the spring. Dang kid, always wants to go along and not stay home and do chores!

The little woman pulled a bad one and invited all of my mom's relatives out for a family reunion, in the middle part of June, for next year. Man! Now I'm going to have to pick up and clean! That just sucks! :x

You're right JB....he is a little skittish of critters.

In fact, when we happened to be on a ranch w/ steers I'd have to " steer whisper" as most of the other folks were scared to death of the silly beasts. City people!!!! :x :x

The steers just want to visit w/ us a bit....and crawl up into our trailer and get into the food koolers!!!

Yup!

The yearlin's around here, the best way to move them is to get out in front and let them try to catch you. Silly beasts!

Jinglebob, on how to move yearlings, Mr. FH says you are "EXACTLY RIGHT." They are like leading a bunch of horses. Silly ole things...but
that is sure what he does.

Nice pictures, thanks for sharing. I'll try to get a gear picture for your other post. Good idea, BTW.
