Hahaha, actually it IS kinda funny. What does every  rancher want right at the end of calving season??
Well, we got it, our second set of twins for the year. I'd post pictures, but my new computer crashed, and windows 98 isn't compatible with anything anymore.
It is actually a good story, about this cow, #33. She is out of one of our best cows. The only heifer we were able to keep. Last year, as a 3 year old, she had twins. Which, in and of itself, is not a big deal. Except, we didn't know she was having twins. She had the first by herself, but never cleaned. She never showed any other signs that there were problems, and retained placentas do happen, and we expect a couple every year, so we never checked her out. Well, 3-4 days later she did clean, and DH found a rotten, dead calf in a heap out in the newborn paddock. Was a great
discovery, and made us feel kinda bad. We decided to send her down to the community pasture, as the bulls are left out about 3 weeks longer than we leave our own bulls out. Hoped she would breed back. She raised her calf, and things were great, since she was indeed pregnant at preg checking time.
Well, as the calving season wore on, and ALL our other cows calved before the end of April, we realized she was going to be pretty late. The only other cows that had not calved were some DH
bought that weren't due til May 1. So, I have been teasing DH that #33 would probably have twins again this year (yeah, right, after the stuff she went though last year). Well, the joke was on me,
when we came home from town today, she had not 1, but 2 black heifer calves. She's a good mama, and has mothered them both up. Which is good, because she gets to keep them both. Normally we would pull one, but bottle feeding is darned expensive, baby calves are worthless, and we aren't likely to lose a calf from one of the last 2 cows to calve!!
