Shortgrass called while I was in for dinner. It was great hearing his voice, and especially hearing how chipper he sounds for what he has been through. About a week ago a big square bale fell on him, breaking several bones in his pelvic area when he was "folded up like a jackknife." He is still recuperating at a Colorado Springs hospital, but is doing very well and expects full recovery within a year. We both agree that prayer works wonders, and are both so grateful for all the prayers of our families and friends in our times of being laid up. He had his cell phone in his pocket, and was immediately able to call his neighbor for help. The neighbor had a helicopter on the way before he even got to the location where Shortgrass was injured. Even though our plans tend to get changed, sometimes new challenges provide new appreciation in these different opportunities. Hang in there, Shortgrass. God is good, and life is good.
