Our rodeo grounds has a pretty good sized grandstand it seats around 3500 people I think it is wooden and was built in 1967 but has been upgraded over the years with treated wood. we went in today to clean up some stuff from the high school rodeo and some @#$%% vandals burnt four sections of it up. I'm not sure if they'll condemn the rest or what. The town wants to take the grounds away and build high rises there this might be just the thing they need to tear it down. I wish they'd catch the kids and throw their deadbeat parents in jail. There is a constant problem in that area and nobody will do anything about it.

Well that's a kick in the shorts NR. Sad part is that even if they are caught there's likely not much can be done to them because they're probably under age. Best thing that could happen would be for you to catch them and deal with it yourself. I guy I know caught some kids stealing his bicycle (after they had stolen his quads, a water pump, etc. ). He knocked the kid off the bike with his truck, got out and hung a beating on him that he'll remember for the rest of his life. His neighbour saw what was going on and came to the kids rescue  . When the police came they told him it's better not to even call them..... unless an ambulance was required. Too bad, but that's the way it is.
Some kids decided to burn down a big hotel they were building in Ft St John a couple of years ago. It was about framed up and the roof on, news people said the cost of damages was close to two million dollars plus the damage to adjacent businesses.

I'm on the agh. Society board-we don't have the money and even if we did the town wouldn't let them be rebuildt. There's talk about building a big indoor arena etc a few miles out of topwn but that's a seven figure capital project. al;ot of rodeo history has been viewed from those stands-Doug Vold's 95 point saddle bronc ride on Transport is one of them. Hopefully they let us keep using the 3/4's of it that is left. Luckily one of the chuckwagon Mom's had to get up to feed a baby or it would of probably all went up.

Did'nt they have insurance? I would bet here you would have to use something other than wood on new bleachers. I made some last year for my bull sale they are'nt very hard to make and don't cost that much.

Sound's more like a developer is the one with the matches.

Too bad about the old bleachers, there are sure a lot of kids around today that should have been spanked a few more times when they were little.

Years ago our FFA teacher came across an old trailer house so he had the FFA kids take off the house and weld a bleacher frame 8 or maybe 10 rows. There are 3 of them now and they make great bleachers and they are portable to any event in the community. Not sure if that would work in your case but free ideas are worth the price paid.

steel bleachers for 4-5000 people are a pretty major undertaking-I think the town owns them and I doubt they'd replace them. That idea of Doug's would be a good idea for a smaller venue for sure. The stands sell out for the Chuckwagon finals every year.

When the musical ride was here a few years back it was sold out-when we all stood for 'O Canada' the grandsatand swayed about a foot either way four or five times-that definately caused a bit of a pucker factor.

Down here most of the bleachers in all football stadiums, rodeo arena's that are county or school owned, and all State Parks. Anything that has bleacher type materials....such as floating docks, etc, are built by our state inmates at a fraction of the cost of what it would take if it was bought and installed by a public company.

You might check around and see if anything like that is available up there.

Our inmates don't work. Too busy going to school or pumping iron or dealing drugs for all that pesky work.
