Kola or Mike-- A Question- Homestead Farm?

Is Homestead Farms of Alabama still in existence...I was thinking about the Homestead Blockbuster sons we used for a few years- and got thinking that that was about the only bull I can remember of that Farms that came out highly touted- and I've seen nothing of them since....

I had a couple bulls that were Blockbuster sons out of N Bar Emulation 5522 sired cows that I used for a few years....Today I was looking at some of the cows come in for water- and picking out some of those daughters....Blockbuster scared me when we first used him because he was still unproven and I thought they would be too big framed-- and because of his high milk- but matched with 5522's input into those bulls that were bred back on my cows he sure turned out some nice moderate framed cows.... And then it also turned out Blockbusters progeny were much more moderate in frame than they first thought.....

The best thing is I never had to worry about pulling a calf sired by one of those bulls......

And Kola when I was looking at pedigrees I see Ankony had a lot to do with old 5522--probably back before you were born-eh

I gotta ck my sources on this!!!!

I'll get some facts and get back to ya.

The CO. address is the old Ankony Shadow Isle deal outside of Bennett CO. Back when Dr. Hammer had Ankony they had a place in NE and CO. I'm gonna guess and say mid 70's on the time line .

The big expansion of DIA has prob swallowed up what was the Shadow Isle Bull Stud by now as it was getting awfully close several yrs ago.

Ankony name has had several owners over the years with us being the latest and had several locations also. Here it's said that the Atl. Journal paper " covers Dixie like the dew"...and the Ankony name covers the cattle industry pretty much the same in one way or another.

I'm not sure about Homestead....that's a Mikey question!!

Homestead sold some cattle last May at an Angus sale. They are outside of Opelika, Al. Owners name is "Banks Herndon".

They use about the same genetics as Lawler and Oak Bowery over around Auburn and all go in and pool bulls in a sale each year.

I heard all these herds cut all their bulls last year because of the drought and down bull market.

Homested fams or Banks Herdon will have 13 lots in an upcomming sale in Opelika, Alabama on Jnauary 12, 2008
This is the southeast Angus Classic bull sale.
The contact is American Livestock Brokers in Ripley, Ms

OT: if you want to talk to Banks ( A super nice person) please let me know and I will PM you his phone number.
