In late November a local girls husband was guiding south of Northern Ranchers domain. He guides for a retired conservation officer. This young man is a true outdoorsman, track a snake in water if need be.

One evening he went to pick up the hunters. Sat on his quad at the first pick up and watched the deer at the bait. Knowing he had five more to pick up approached the blind, started to unzip blind, when the occupant from New York state thought it was a cougar undoing the zipper and shot. Blow his thumb off, and the fragments entered his stomach area. The hunter was no quitter as he reloaded. The guide jump backwards still not knowing what had been done to him.

Realizing the cougar had no fur he tried to assist the guide, putting the hunter on the quad he asked him to pull him out on the sliegh. The wounded guide had to get out once to get them out of a bad spot.

Upon reaching Meadow Lake some time later an immediate blood transfusion was needed because he was down more than a pint. Spending time there, was air ambulanced to Saskatoon and spent three weeks in University Hospital.

It was a 300 weatherby rifle and the only thing that saved him was the bullet was one that breaks into many pieces upon impact.

Tomorrow night there is a beneift in Glaslyn Sask. for John, hope it goes well.

By the way the hunter gave him a $100 tip. He is back in Canada for court in the spring!
