We spent one last couple of three days at the ranch. I start the new job and Little H goes back to school tomorrow. It's been a wonderful summer with the family. Having money will be pretty wonderful too, but we've had a summer of miracles. Friends, family and lots of ranch trips. Who could ask for more? :D I spent some more time on my fence. Down to the last quarter mile of rocks. It's a personal challenge now! I'll finish that bugger on weekends for free if I have to, but i WILL finish it! The second to last strain brace in the bottom of the middle creek draw.

A little less than a quarter mile that'a way is the finish line. :D Yipeeeee!

A slimmer silouette next to a hole needing a cedar post planted in it.

On Friday at 5 pm it was still plenty warm. The challenge is packing enough water to keep ya runnin' on all cylinders. I don't want to know how hot it was on the fence all day.

I got in the truck Friday to go meet the guys to replace the damaged gate I showed ya in another post. They were some very repentant young men. Must of thanked me 50 times for not pressing the issue in court. They jumped in and dug two good postholes and set the two new big gate posts I cut. Then they hung the new gate they bought. It ended up being a great deal. They learned something and I did too. Even though people can drive ya crazy sometimes they can surprise ya also. Here's the new gate. Hope it lasts as long as the one it replaced. :D

Last night the monsoon moisture came cruising in from the south. We went from super dry and triple digits to an all night rain and the 60's today. The ol' clouds hanging on the mountain looks like fall.

Nothing freshens and renews the desert like rain! Wish ya'll could smell this picture. Sage brush, Cedars and Wet Dirt! Makes fencing a pure pleasure. Even the rocks were agreeable today!

Another shot of the remnants of last nights storm.

After finishing the section of fence i was working on this mornin' we went up the canyon for a little jaunt. You may remember the pictures of the fire i took a couple weeks ago and the helicopter that helped put it out. Littlest H has been begging to go hike up to the burnt trees and see it for himself. So we did today. It was a good 1/2 a mile up a cedar ridge and pretty steep. But the 4 of us made the climb. :D Here's 3 of the 4 posing with the ashes.

Littlest H was pretty excited to be at the spot. He's either going to be a wildland fire fighter or a pyromaninac! Either one beats a bullrider!

The kids had a pretty fun summer. What else matters?

This tree was much warmer the last time i was here!

And this afternoon we discovered this written inside an old grain bin at the Henry Ekker Ranch. It was written by one of my Mom's cousins in 1945. She has since passed away. Hope ya'll leave your own little marks on life so folks will know you were there. Especially through acts and deeds and words. Thanks for including this goofball from the desert in the Ranchers.net club and thanks for all the thoughts and prayers while we were looking for work. They have meant the world to us! I am mighty proud to know ya and count many of you as close friends. I'll try hard to not let WORK interfere with checking in with ya! Be good!

Tommorow is the 24th, good luck on your first day at sch... I mean work. :D

Is this job going to take you away from home during the week? Mrs H can check in and let us know how you're doing.

BTW, you build a pretty good fence.

really good pics leaning H i really enjoyed them!! specilly the moutian(hill?) with the front commin up and the last one!!

We found an old board at our place back in MB that had the initials of the 2 sons that were killed in the war. it was pretty cool. To have a piece of history like that, both boys were killed the same day at two different spots. it was rare for both of them to go but they went and fought instead of their dad going. Its really sad that niether of them made it home.

thanks for postin the pictures!! haha were workin on some fences, but cant seem to find any trees to use   guess i better put my order into the coop lol

Thanks for takin us along on your fencin excursions this summer. I've really enjoyed seein the pictures. Glad we don't have the rocks to contend with that you do. But you've made a hard job look fun. And like you said, your kids enjoyed their summer.

Good luck with the new job. And hope the kiddos do well in school.

My youngen' (Lil Lilly) starts College tomorrow. I asked her if she wanted me to go with her to take her picture of her "first" day of school. LOL I got "the look".

That sure makes my fencing seem eazy - - - - I use mostly hot wire and If I can't push a post in the ground with a loader I just move it or dig a hole with an excavator - - -fill hole back with gravel and the post is very tight.

Love the pictures

Once again, a great set of pictures and a wonderful story to go with them! I sure hope you don't be a stranger now that you've started the job because we would miss your stuff terribly.

Your attitude and fortitude has been a real inspiration as you told and showed your story this summer. Blessings to you and yours.

Glad your fence is almost done 'H, and the new job is all that and more!! Our kids start school next Mon. summer has flown by for sure!! thanks for the photo tour :-)

You did the right thing with those kid vandals !! I nsure did some things I'm not proud of !!!

Now, about those repentant yourng men---I saw the silouette by the post hole and saw you were packin' iron....I repent also! That was good H. You handled it right.

Probably how he dug that post hole :D

A great story with a happy ending. I'm proud of how you handled the vandal situation. I voted GUILTY and now it looks like they're FORGIVEN.
Repentence is the second step in forgiveness, offering it is the first.
It was a great summer, one I know your kids'll remember and cherish on down the road, probably already do.
PS, you're a good example of why Free Men should be armed. Obviously you're not anxious to pull a gun on someone but you had it if you needed it.
Hang Tough.

Thanks all! 1st day at work was lots of training. Probably why they hired me..... got someone who knows nothing and try to start teaching me from the ground up!

Gcreek, I work shift work after a couple weeks of training. Will be home every night or day depending on the new schedule.

Burnt, That might have been one of the nicest things anyone has ever told me. THANKS! Must just mean ya don't know me too well!

Shortgrass, If you'd get a nice leather holster with some beautiful tooling of the cross or a shepard with some lambs and then fill the holster with a pearl handled six-shooter you too would find it much easier to get your point across!  :D That's my snake shooter as me and snakes are allergic to each other! Might be handy for other varmints too.

RSL, :P

And Dust Devil, I believe in the Boy Scout Motto; Be Prepared! I'd never even consider it over a gate. But when you're 60 miles from town and a hundred from law enforcement it doesn't hurt to know what you're doing. A wonderful freedom called the 2nd Amendment! :D I have shot a bunch of snakes and sincerley hope and pray that's all it ever gets used for........ But leave my family alone or I'll make a mother grizzly with PMS look like a newborn kitten. :D

I've always enjoyed your photo stories...so I hope your new job won't interfere with that..lol Priorities ya know...You're kids are gonna grow up and talk about their adventures as kids...great memories for them and you...Good luck with the new job...stay in touch when ya can...
