We have had some mild days lately. Sure are welcome after bitter cold and drifting snow. Went looking for the last 7 head again last week and found 5 of the 7. The ridge tops have melted off nicely and the cows were full and doing well. Finding fresh tracks is always a great feeling when ya havent seen any for awhile.
Phil and i had split up to cover more country. I found this old gal and got her back to the ranch where we fed her well. She has plenty of feed and water and we even found another cow for a companion but i neglected to take her picture. Found two others over east a ways in plenty of grass. and one down on the desert with the nieghbors bunch. Now if we could get a stock trailer within 30 miles of them we'd be set.
The snow makes the ol' desert sure pretty with its frosted look. Oughta make it green too when it melts and warms up. Life is grand even when its a challenge. Isnt it amazing how challenges turn into blessings in both storms and life?
Hope this moisture catches up with those of ya who really need it. What's crazy is 2 weeks ago there was over 2 feet of snow right where i took this picture and you couldnt drive a 4 wheeler at all.
Thought i'd throw in a few pics of little H's fledgling sheep operation. She has had so much fun showing lambs in 4H that she jumped in with both feet and bought 3 ewes. The first ewe had her lambs this week and had triplets. It's a new deal on this place cause we are sheep raising rookies. But with help from our friends (you know who you are) we are getting the hang of it. I needed a maternity ward for the ewes so used an old dog kennel to panel off part of the sheep shed.
Ewe #2 had a single and all 4 lambs are doing great. Only one left to drop and i'll be happier than a gopher in soft dirt. We have to lamb this early to make weight at the county stockshow in August. Little H has picked some nice suffolk ewes in my opinion. But i dont know much about the woolies!
They are cute lil' buggers when they are lambs. To bad they grow up and turn into sheep!   But watching the kids work with thier lambs and how good they are getting at it is more than worth it.
She is a fine stockwoman and simply a natural with animals. She always knows where to stand, when to take a step and cut off a cow. She is kind and smart and talented and beautiful. Thankfully she takes directly after her mother.
I am proud of that lil' gal and can't wait to see how high she can fly.
(except for the whole dating/boyfriend deal in 30 years which may force me to get just a tad crazy)
Have a fine evening
