Pics of our local salesyard on from last Sunday. Calf sale was the day before. This is the largest sales barn, based on capacity, in Ontario. 1500+ head went through the ring. 1100 Calves, 212 yearlings, 12 cull bulls and the rest in cull cows. Neighbours had 8 late-March/early April purebred Hereford steers at 569 average, got $96.50 cwt. Friends had about 25 straightbred Hereford steers, born early March, with weights from 615 to 650, they got 90.50 to 101.00 cwt. Saw a pen of 18 Angus steers, ave. 430 lbs, born early April, went for $1.32. We shipped one cull cow, at 1365 lbs, got 41.50 cwt for her. Average on the cull cows was 40-42 cwt and bulls were 63-68 cwt. Calves averaged about 90-105.00 cwt on the steers and 75-95.00 on the heifers. Regardless of size, most calves between 400-600 lbs sold for about $500 a piece. :cowboy:
