MEANDERINGS AT THIRTY THOUSAND FEET
I was asked to do my civic duty,
Do a thing called a cultural exchange,
So on this day I wasn't out riding,
I was flying over the home range.
Looking down on the things below,
Some that are great, some that 's pretty small,
Got me into some serious thinking,
A little different perspective on it all.
I was wondering why they built those roads,
To all those big mansions on the hills,
But none of the loggers can build roads,
To get their loads of logs into saw mills?
And why all of the silt and sediment from logging
Will cause great harm to their precious trout,
But putting in septics and sewers won't
And these mansions surely won't do without.
Someone needs to reason with me,
I guess I am kinda slow,
How can we have global warming,
When the mountains have record snow?
And all of this is my own fault,
Caused by emissions from my trucks,
Those green geniuses have not even considered gases
From the ponds they built for their endangered ducks.
Now me and my cows have caused a big problem,
You have to realize I'm not all that smart,
I'm still trying to figure this warming out,
It's global but caused by a cows' fart?
Now I don't remember a single one
Of those trusted green bureaucrats
Helping me to plow snow to feed the cows
Took all day long pushing through drifts with the Cat.
Now we have our good government
Telling us all of our wants and needs,
And what we need now is ethanol
Not crops for food or livestock feeds.
Now explain to me how it all works,
When the people who live in cities or town,
Can tell me how it has to be done,
When my favorite horse has to be put down.
They are the ones who have given us,
Wolves, black footed ferrets and endangered mice,
People in extractive industries are the ones to blame
Even if a polar bear should slip and fall on the ice.
The people who make a living, working on the land,
Are the creators of all this new found wealth,
And they for sure are very concerned
About the environment and this planets health.
Someone living in a concrete and steel jungle
Has no idea how things in nature go around,
How wild animals and man can coexist,
How the birds and real quiet might sound.
I keep hearing all these self righteous people,
Complain about America, our industries and such
But there's nobody else in this whole world
That has it so darn easy, with so very much.
They think that they are of the less fortunate,
Without the latest ipod, computer or cel phone,
When there's others in this whole world.
Who would be happy with some food and a home.
Take a look at all of these obese people
With way too much time on their hands,
Spending a lot of time and their money,
Telling us how to take care of the lands.
Me I think that it would be for the very best
If they were to mind the business of their own,
Instead of telling us how we should do it,
Especially on property that we own.
Now these are just some muddled meanderings
Written down at thirty thousand feet in the air,
By one of the original environmentalists,
Who had some thoughts to share.
