Do any of you guys use medicine bags? If so could someone post some pictures, please? We are having a debate here. The builder[Lisa] isn't doing what the designer[me] wants, or maybe thinks he wants.

Your talkin' saddle bags right not something to put your bear claws and elk ivory in?
Yep, the kind that you pack on your horse, with drugs, needles, syringes, and all that stuff. I have her makin one right now, that I can wear as a shoulder holster, sorta.

The guys up here have them built as saddle bags a place to hold your bottle and syringes so you don't have to undo anything much to get at them. Anything slung around your neck would get you yanked off in the bush.

i just googled medicine bags then saddle bags.interesting.

i think a saddle bag is for a quarter horse.a medicine bag, google says can be worn by the person and can mean several things.

i'm think'n a medicine bag might be for the modern cowboy with the japanese horse,,like the kowasoki and not much brush.

i'm ponder'n on this one. sorrry i can't help

We used to have a couple and they were shaped to fit behind the
cantle of the saddle, with a zipper and some D-rings to hold
some stuff needed for doctoring. I just have to say this: after
we got on a year round mineral program that stuff was no longer
needed. Life was much, much better not having to do all that
doctoring. Believe me, we did more than our share.

FWIW :D

LazyWP,,i would enjoy to see some pics of the results of this debate.
a good medicine bag has several uses, and could be used for work or pleasure.google says they can have several designs.maybe you're on to something.

knew a vetrinarian once that had two.one for the ranch and one for the city.one for medicine and one for spirits.

The ones I have seen are like a saddle bag with bottle holders that keep the bottle upside down so they can be drawn from right where they hang.. They could also have a pocket part for boluses ect as well as the tools of the trade ie. syringe and balling gun.

we have a couple of them, I can take some photos for you, but need to run to town this aft. will try for later or tomorrow

My neighbor has a nice set. They have a place for a bottle of combiotic, a tagging gun, and plenty of room for xtra stuff like tags, bolluses, notebook, camera, ect. He even built a scabbard for a sortin' stick in case a cow gets excited when tagging her calf. When you get them built, post pictures and I'll add a set to my order.

I have a set on my saddle. There is a regular bag on the right, and the left has three places for bottles to be held upside down. Above the bottle holders is a place for a syringe. I had the saddle made in 1990 and the bags came with it and I've never taken them off. Pretty handy.

Ok, here is what she came up with for the saddle. The other side is just a typical saddle pocket. 7X7 inches.

This one is set up for a 100ml bottle and a 250ml bottle. The pocket on top of the bottles holds a couple small syringes plus a few needles.

I'm not denying that a good mineral program wouldn't stop most of the pasture doctoring, but we just summer cattle for other people, and sometimes...... I get to practice my not so good roping skills

we us a cantle bag comes in pretty handy if your not packing it around on a saddle . we stuff are bottles in a pair of heavy wool socks and are bloses in a container stuffed with cotton balls , it all seems to hold together pretty good

I know this wouldn't work in a bunch of timber, and yes I have to deal with TERRIBLE timber, but out in the open I think it will work. I'm not like most of you guys, my horses don't always stay where they should. Mine head for the house.

If you get bucked off and your horse leaves you afoot at least you will be able to treat yourself.

Actually it looks pretty good. :D

Just don't stick your self with a needle filling the syringe.
