Men singing in Church?

I agree with the article. My mom made sure us kids knew how to read music sing and play an instrument when I was little. I sing at church and am pretty good at singing if I do say so myself. But these big churches are making it hard to sing along. We attended a church when on vacation once that had the song up on the wall. It's hard to sing along when you don't know the notes or the words cause you've never heard the song and can't follow. Then the person on the projector is one page behind and then nobody is singing at all.

I see where some churches now have two services on Sunday Morning. One a traditional service and then one with all the new upbeat music etc. We still sing the old songs, one of the oldest being "All Creatures of Our God and King" written by St. Francis of Assisi in 1225. I can't really sing but as some say "I try to make a joyful noise". :wink:

My experience has been that everyone sang. We had a men's choir here for many years.
Many things contribute to people not singing: song leaders who are hard to follow, but mostly loud amplifiers that drown out everybody else.

Once here a couple of years ago a band from out of town sang at Mass here. I guess they sang, all I heard was the artificial drum beat from their huge speakers; BOOM -BOOM- BOOM, it sounded so good when it quit.

I think our whole society had become spectators rather than part of the group. Music has become loud guitars, etc without any good rhyme or rhythm to follow.
