We have been obliterated by a heat wave and the wind lately. Last Friday we decided to get off the desert and gain some altitude on a trip to the wasatch mountains. Started the day early by drowning a few worms in Utah Lake trying our hand a catfishing. Little H' was celebrating her birthday and caught 2, a nice little white bass and a small mud cat. Littlest H' only caught 1 but it was a nice sized channel cat. Fun morning.
My wife and i struck out but watching the kids was plenty for us. We fished for 2 hours and had a really good time. We filleted them all up and had a fine fish fry on Sunday.
After grabbing some lunch, we headed up on Mount Nebo. It is a fun loop road to drive over. I have chased elk up on this mountain for years, as has my family. The kids took Mrs. H on a hike while i napped.
Posing with some old quaking aspen artwork left by my mom on one of our annual elk hunts. We were talking awhile back and decided our family has taken over 50 cows and 19 bulls on this mountain over the years.
My grandmother left her mark here in '87. She would of been in her 70's in 1987 and loved hunting elk. Quite the huntress!
Hiking down to the green gate was the goal for thier trip. It's about 1 1/2 miles but you lose 1500 feet in elevation. Coming back out of the hole is a good challenge. The green gate is mostly rust colored these days.
The wildflowers sure were pretty. It was so cool and nice, we hardly wanted to head for the house. Guess it helps that we will slip away a few more times as the summer progress's. Hopefully, come August, i can punch my archery tag on a nice dry cow or a spike bull.
Looking up at the peak on Nebo. 12000+ feet. Saw two mountain goats but i left the spotting scope home and couldnt take thier pictures from that far away. We had a nice day "escaping" the desert and the heat and wind was waiting for us when we got home. Such is life. Have a fine Saturday.
