riley (on 4-wheeler) and flint (on the go-cart) after school today...going to find daddy and see if he needs some help moving in the heavies!!

by the time the snow stopped flying, this was hanging over the gutter of the front of the house!

more snow overhanging the gutter!!

snow on the cooler.....cowboy figures about 10" came down in less than 18 hours!!! Came down pretty steady all day...nice thing is the moisture...lots of WET snow!!

demodriver came home and found this little baby in her room, warming up by her heater!! Poor little guy had about froze and a little TLC from gussie had him up and running in no time!!

demodriver and one of her favorite coaches...right before demodrivers very last high school game!!

Too bad you had to get all this snow right when you're calving ranchwife. It missed us altogether :D for a change. I'm sure we'll get it big time when our cows start calving in late March. Good luck calving. Looks like you have lots of good help!

been so danged warm the past few days that the new babies are sorta struggling with all this snow and falling temperatures!! sky is crystal clear tonight and that means COLD!!! Just drug a newborn into the stables to warm up...gotta go out and check again in an hour!! Boy, does cowboyup owe me for this!!!

I just hope I don't ditch the tractor tomorrow... Amazing what a little skim of ice does to the roads around here..

Nice pictures of the day ranchwife... Some folks just don't aprreciate the calf in the bed room... my daughter wishes we would bring all of the babies inside.. she claimes that she doesn't have enough pets

Have a lamb inside right now.. Sigh... Oh well..

I'll be thinking of you - or maybe not, while I'm in my nice warm bed. You can return the favor when we start calving!

Don't worry DJL....I'll be "thinking" of you (probably cussin ya out  ) when the temp reaches the single digits, the wind is howling and I am walking through the calving pens...shining the flashlight on the "ladies" and saying "DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, GIRLS!!"

IL Rancher-----we have a japanese foreign exchange student who spent a day with us last weekend who went simply crazy over the sight of a "baby cow" in my daughter's room...went to school the next day and told everyone else "he sooooo cute...he say 'moooo' "!!!!

The worst time I can remember checking heifers at night wasn't due to snow, it was due to the wolves howling out in the cow field, and all the cows were bawling and upset. The heifers weren't too keen on having me wandering amongst them, and I was armed only with a flashlight. I had to check ahead of me, and then behind me to make sure they weren't going to motor me just on spec that I might be a wolf too.

about 1 in the morning, there were several "animals" howling about a mile north of the large calving pens...I was doing the same thing as you....looking ahead but watching my backside!!!

What an absolute treat for that foreign exchange student to be able to visit you on a real ranch and see the calf in its own bedroom! That will surely be a cherished memory all the student's life. :D

There is a Japanese student in our school this year. His name is Seiya. When I greet him, I always say, "Hi, Seiya." When we depart I say, "See ya, Seiya."

nr---her name is akane and she is simply adorable!! She comes from wealthy parents in japan (mom is a high end fashion designer and dad "is never, ever home---except maybe twice a year) and they live in the city...where "nobody has this kind of room"...the look on her face when gussie took her for a ride on the 4 wheeler was "priceless'!! :D

Sounds nice.. A lot of folks around here had exchange students years ago, mostly from Iceland of all place.. He had about one a year in my highschool and one ended up staying and finishing his education in th states (Moved in with his uncle I believe).. We had them from Spain, Italy, Argentina and the kid from South Korea... Some really great kids, one not so great but pretty good .. Also had a kid from Croatia come over when that war was going on.. He stayed with his cousin who happened to be Serbian.. That was... interesting,
