Saskatchewan is has only allowed Big game outfitting in the north of the province and not allowed payed hunting( outfitting)in the south except for water fowl and upland birds. I feel things are changing with people wanting to charge for hunting rights and ability to outfit for big game in the south. Also non residents on Sask. haven't had big game opportunities in the south. Looking at the Block management program it looks that smaller producers with hunting opportunities could get some compensation for allowing the public to hunt and the larger ones could have the ability to outfit and charge. It would possibly be the balance we need to keep as many happy as possible.

What do you think?

Just a thought......I wonder if the payed hunting isn't whats causing all the SD problams? Alberta doesn't get payed for hunting either

I think that could be part of the problem. I think the issue is heating up in Alberta as well.
The Sask Wildlife federation have really fought this idea. But they have a Fish and Wildlife development fund that uses Habitat fund money to buy habitat and Most of it is so over grown that any self respecting deer won't live there. :-) That money could be used to secure many acres of prime hunting on private land.
 
With paid hunting is liablility issues. We just let friends and soldiers we know come and hunt. As long as they respect the land they are welcome. So far we've met some really nice people and had some fun times when they have been here.
 
We manage our own hunting. Alot of our hunters are willing to work with us so they can hunt. We do not charge them to hunt.

We looked at the Block Program when it first came out. Just didn't like the idea of just anybody coming on our place at anytime. The compensation is just not worth shot cows and bullet holes in our buildings.

Alot of hunters here are not happy because alot of landowners have gone with leasing out their hunting rights to outfiters.

By the way we have shut down for the last 4 years any buck hunting. Why? It is pretty bad when you go out and count 40 does and one buck in a herd. We just kept seeing just that one buck.
This last fall we counted over a dozen bucks on our place. The ratio was much better. One buck to 8 does on average.
Did start getting calls from other hunters who have never called before who wanted to hunt. Told them does only, they wanted the bucks. Were told it was either does or no hunting. May seem mean, but the guys who have been here shooting does for us helped to get the population back in order. They get first shot at any buck that is a 4x4 or bigger of their choice. We are allowing 5 bucks to be taken this fall.
Our FWP does not like it either. Too bad.
 
Interestingly I had a chance to talk with the local owners (lawyer, real estate agent, insurance business owner) of a "Fishing Lodge" they have purchased in Saskatchewan and been promoting fly in guided fishing trips on the radio and tv...

I asked them how they were able to do that with the Canadian ownership law- and was advised they had to set up a Canadian Corporation with one Canadian as a part owner-- but that unlike agricultural land their was no requirement on % ownership (like the 51% Canadian ownership required on Ag land)- and that the Canadian owned 25% of the business....

As the attorney told me "Leave it to me and I can work it out by hook or by crook" :wink: :lol:
