More fall photos...

Today I turned the heifers out and moved the cows into a new pasture.

The cows enjoying their new pasture. This is the first fall in a few years where the creek has a good stream of water running down it, and the springs are running too .

This cow was navigating tornado damage from last spring :shock: . She would do well in trail class :wink: .

After about the third time this cow went down and drooled for hours after being vaccinated in the fall, I clued in that perhaps she was "having a reaction." :wink: I put this blue tag in her ear to remind me NOT to vaccinate her .

This is the oldest cow on the place... she was here before I came almost 13 years ago... and she wasn't a heifer back then . We've gotten rid of most of our old cows, but she's always been a great producer, and I couldn't part with her. She is the last "original" cow out of the 230 head which were here when I first started this job.

It just wouldn't be fall if we weren't digging up and repairing a water line . You wouldn't know that Jim was in the hospital for a week, in bad shape last month. I guess living on this windy, cold rock pile has made him a little tougher than most .

For those who asked for an inside shot of my new cottage, here you go. I'm not fully moved in, but with the change in weather coming, I'll start organizing and decorating the inside soon.

The cow that reacted poorly to vaccinating....did she recover on her own or did you have to give her a shot of epenepherine?

Wyoming,that new cottage must be leaps and bounds better then the old trailer you were in,nothing like all the heat going out the walls in winter,and jim looks to be strong as an ox for a man his age.Nice pics.

Watch her calves if yall still have them you might get a reaction from them as well. We lost 2 last week due to the guy not knowing it could be fixed. :roll:

She recovered on her own, which is good since she was already turned back out into the pasture. I found her after working the rest of the cattle. I usually have my trusty bottle of expired epinephrine on hand... I forget to refresh my supply until I need it .

When I first started almost 13 years ago, Jim thought nothing of roping a cow on foot. Perhaps that's why his elbows don't straighten out anymore . The first fall I was here, we had a sick hereford cow which needed loaded into the trailer. Jim roped her on foot and held her until I could get the trailer close. He doesn't do that sort of stuff anymore...that was back when he was young and in his early sixties :lol: .
