I posted pictures of mustangs running on The Cedar Mountain in the past and have mentioned that they are of a different cut. They are wild and only need to smell our presence to leave the country at a high rate of speed. Last week the weather reporter said it was going to cool down to eighty degrees,,, so I though it would be a good time to check out Cedar Mountain. We had been there a while back and saw a lot of paints. Neither of my friends could go, so I went alone. I planned to arrive out here after 5:00 PM when the sun is low and pictures come out better.
I found the band of 130 head about two miles from Brown Spring. That was good. I had plenty of time to get set up before any of them would make it to water. The started coming over the ridge about a mile to the west in bands of five to eight. It's surprising how fast they cover the country. MY heart was doing double time when the got close enough to start taking pictures.
I heard him coming up behind me a few seconds before I saw him.
I was able to get almost ready for him before he saw me.
At times,, two or three bands were coming at one time. (Remember your blood pressure)
This tough was dry when I got there,,, so I filled it up. I shut the water off when I left because the float valve was froze up.
These three about caused me to twist my neck off,,, I wasn't set up to take pictures behind me. I don't know why they decided to circle behind and above where I was hiding out.
They finally ended up at the water.
This paint was super cautious. He didn't come in until three or four bands had watered and then left.
